Should be free and before I get told that I'm a ps3 fanboy or a PC fanboy … Should be free and before I get told that I'm a ps3 fanboy or a PC fanboy you would be wrong I have a xbox 360 but I refuse to pay extra for things that should be free..... like watching BBC iplayer, we already pay to watch it why should we need to pay Microsoft more money to watch the TV we just paid for?

Not going to call you a fanboy, but essentially paying £2.50 / month (roughly) for a constantly online, unified gaming service with a stack of extras (Last.fm is worth it alone for me)is good value - no one is forcing it on anybody.

Plus for all the occasional users, they happpily let you use offer codes, stack vouchers to build time cheap, and has retention deals to pay next to nothing for access.

I can't believe we get so many xbox live threads. In every thread it devolves into a should I be paying for online and then somebody points out that xbox charge so little (even if you paid full price at Amazon it is only £2.50/month). Of course nobody realizes that even with this great deal price you only end up saving 42p a month. 42p! Hot, hot, hot!

If you have an XBOX 360 and don't have a Gold Membership you are not getting the best use out of each Game you have, so the logic behind your comments don’t really make sense when looking at the big picture.

For example, every year I buy the new Call Of Duty Game, however less than 5% of my time with that Game in spent playing the Single Player and the other 95% is spent playing the Multiplayer via XBOX Live Gold Membership, and I know this is the same for almost everyone.

I would suggest buying one less Game a Year and instead buy yourself a XBOX Live Gold Membership. You would then be able to play Online with Friends and get the maximum playing time out of every single Game you own.

Of course I would prefer for XBOX Live Gold Memberships to be free, but for less than 8p per day it’s hardly breaking the bank.

If you phone microsoft then you can phone them to say you don't want to renew your xbox live they will then try to keep you by giving you a deal. They will offer you 12 months and 800 MSP for £26.05 which is good! One more thing they followed up by sending me two 600 MSP codes for the first 2 months. So in total i ended up with 2200 MSP and 12 Months gold for £26.05

If you happen to buy this make sure your signed up to xbox rewards as free MSP! You get 200 MSP points for renewing your 12 month sub.

It is a bit of a swizz tho. I play gears of war 3 and i'm sure some of my stats haven't updated since going free. My lancer kills are the same even though i've been playing campaign and horde frequently. I even spent several hours and did all 50 waves of horde in one go - didn't even get a ribbon for it.

For those of you on family packs, you can buy a 12 month sub and it will extend your family pack by 6 months or 7 months if you buy a 12+2 sub. However, do not do what I did and let it lapse and then buy two 12+2 subscription cards as you will lose the + 2 months. I was on the phone for over an hour while they tried to sort it out. Eventually they gave me 3 single month subs which converted to 2 months worth of family pack.
  33. kinesin's avatar
Thanks OP. Puchase just after noon and got my email/codes 1h42mins later :-)

I was buying a family pack anyway so applied to my solo account, I then upgraded to the family pack where MS discount the price by £36/12 months for existing membership. Saved me £15 on family membership :-)

ok for anyone in a similar situation i got a reply from the seller saying there should be a button to click in the email. Gmail tho wasn't telling me it was blocking/not displaying anything. Tried turning off a browser plug in and using a different browser. no dice so forwarded it to my old hotmail account. There Hotmail did fess to blocking some content so unblocked it and just got a few grey boxes. Reloaded and got the same. On one box tho it proved to be a link and i was a bit apprehensive of clicking it but i had little option. This was placed directly below the username and password in the email. And at last i got a box asking for the pass and user. When they went in i got a picture of the code. Just put that in the xbox and got 12month Gold. But it was a faff to get that email like that. I think they should try and send an email that works first time and is clearly understandable even if you have to copy n past a long winded url.
