Great price this, will be getting some when I visit costco this week to stock up on Nappies whilst they are on special offer.

I presume you didn't see the Jamie Oliver programme about the inhumane conditions that pigs are farmed in outside of the UK?! Disgusting. I'll never buy anything except British again.

Buy British!!!

Very nice tasting bacon and great value even without the monday off.

Buy British-keep our farmers in work-otherwise we will all lose out..............
Apologies for standing on my soap box but it has to be said!!

It will be the packing plant which I would have assumed would be here in the UK

Wherever it comes from, and even ignoring the obvious cruelty issues, this requires a subscription @ Costco to buy it in the first place!

"Produced in Denmark, packed in the UK". Tastiest bacon in my view - so I'll be stocking up this weekend. Don't believe for a minute that UK farmers are in any way more moral than European ones, regardless of what you're led to believe by the press. After all if we could trust our own farming standards we wouldn't have been the source of BSE and Foot and Mouth...........

Possibly true. However the LAW stops them pumping it full of water to the degree that EC bacon is allowed to. How can a rasher of bacon be 20% water???? EU law says it can be, so Danish bacon normally is. Whereas UK law says it can't be - so it probably isn't.
Buy British to save British jobs....maybe. Buy British to get healthier food...definitely

Come on, buy British - Your country needs you!

hot deal from me, buy British if it doesn't cost too much, that's my motto

Thing is here , this deal is a good one for those who love good bacon ..... maybe not for the moral high grounders or those without a costsco subscription already.

I'll be picking a couple of packs up for sure, at that price it'd be rude not to !!

If the same product can be bought for the same price or less that is sourced in britain then I would actually choose BRITISH over an imported product every time but I wouldnt pay a premium to do so.

I am not sure what you are saying here... You haven't got it right - labelling is the same for UK or Danish when sold in the UK.

What you may be confusing - Water content has to be labelled... BUT only when it is beyond the allowed water content of 10% So even if no added water is listed, it will be up to 10% anyway, wherever it is from.

I wasn't going to get all moral but...

Methods of farming pigs deemed inhumane and cruel by the UK are legal in Denmark but not in the UK, hence UK pigs are generally of a higher welfare standard (in Denmark, think caged chickens but with pigs),

I couldn't say whether British farmers are more moral or not, but either way, they have to abide by the law,

good deal for those that like bacon as i doubt you will get this amount anywhere else for the price. i stay away from bacon and other processed meats though as they are supposed to increase the risk of cancer.

The same product cannot be purchased in Britain because the practice of producing bacon in this manner is illegal. Rightly so... IMO.. FWIW...

Not voting hot or cold, cos this is a good price for a bad product.

I assume that you have never had Danish bacon? Or is this since you watched Jamie a few nights ago?

I've let my membership slide because I found the opposite, I could never walk in the place without spending £200, and on balance, it's much, much cheaper going to Tesco and taking advantage of bogof and half-price deals.

Anyway, these will be half water....buy british, usually better quality, less water, better treatment for the pig, better for the country, and the danes don't need your money.

buy british & support our country. i will only buy british meat now and only free range chickens you can get cheaper free range chickens in lidl. if you dont understand why i do this now watch jamie oilver and hugh on channel 4 via the net.

My point was - is this good bacon? If you put it in the pan and you get loads of scum coming out coz its been pumped full of water - no thanks. This isn't moral high ground - its just I don't like eating scum.

I love bacon, and eat a lot of it - but would rather not eat it that eat poor scummy bacon. In my experiance, this sort of product is scummy.

We want SCRUMMY not SCUMMY!!!:)

Don't think I mentioned labelling.
Law lets EU producers put more water into bacon than UK farmers. Fact.
Even if you don't beleive this - buy two packs. Fry them in the same pan. What is the SCUM content, as all that water pumped in mixes with the fat and produced white scum all over your meat?

Saw the Jamie Oliver programme and thought it was disgusting how the pigs are treated abroad in the EU.
From now on I'll be buying British.
However it is an excellent deal for those wanting buy it, so voted hot.

It's a good job today's key word isn't scum, otherwise you'd have been in the grunge tank and no mistake.

Surely if you are worried that much about the animals you would be vegetarian?

I watched a bit of the Jamie Oliver program but I do find these chef's a little patronising, it's up to the government or whoever to stop the meat being imported and sold in this country. As long as there is cheap meat for sale people will buy it, alot of people don't have a choice and just go by the price.

I'm not going to go into the affordable meat debate, but doesn't Danish bacon have the reputation of being the best bacon? Packets always make a big deal out of the fact its from Denmark.

IMO the DEAL is for Danish bacon and seems to be a good price for what you are getting so heat added from me

To all the "Buy British" brigade why bother ...? this site is a heads-up for 'deals'. Those people interested in buying Danish bacon will read them / vote accordingly and potentially buy the goods .. for those not interested, they'll avoid - simple.

Give the OP a break.

It's no different to people shopping in Primark - yes there are kids in sweat-shops making cheap clothes, but people will still buy cheap clothes as money is tight at the moment - but you won't see people making "buy british clothes" comments on those threads ... :whistling:

Not necessarily. I eat meat, in fact I love meat. But just because I enjoy it, that doesnt justify keeping these animals in inhumane conditions and absolute misery while they are alive. They all die the same, but its how they live that matters.

Blaming the govt is ridiculous. If people didnt buy it, they either a). wouldnt sell it or b). would change their ways. It's simple economics, and all the time people are buying this cheap meat, they will continue producing it.

Voted cold. Its not a good deal at all imo.

Is the Free range Chicken in Lidl British?

The Free Range eggs are usually Netherlands in my experience, but I don't generally buy Chicken there, so haven't closely looked!

I am all for buying British, especially on the welfare basis, but both the quality and water arguments are simply not true, and misinformation is NOT the way to win an argument if the argument is to stand on it's own :-(

The quality of British Bacon varies, like any other product, and water varies too, the same markings are required on packs on the same basis.

For Danish Bacon to be cheaper than British is the big injustice, as the price is loaded against British suppliers, as the more humane standards inevitably will cost more :-(

Cheap bacon, British or Danish, isn't worth eating. Once you've tried properly cured bacon you won't go back to this stuff. And you don't get the filthy watery slimy mess which cheap bacon leaves behind in the pan.

I've not bought any bacon other than British since 1999 when we made the bloody awful crates that mothering sows were forced to live in illegal. Unlike the rest of the EU where they will not be phased out until 2013 and then not in for all pig farmers

Boycott EU pork products if you have any sort of consience I say.

Erm, actually I will not buy 'cheap' clothing because it is simply rubbish. I'd rather buy decent stuff.

Stuff The Danish...

Buy British, Keep Our Economy Going.

Plus Danish bacon is literally 75% water.....so the deal should technically be for Danish Water

Wow! how naive are you. You obviously disregard anything Jamie was showing and saying on his programme. Even the Danish brand would not show how 20% of their pork is produced because they are ashamed of the conditions
1 pig, pregnant 3 times a year lasting 3 months each standing in one stall, they cannot turn around nor move out of the stall for 5 years, they go mental - Buy Danish - NO CHANCE
Sky+ it next time its on or go the channel4.com and look for the link - or turn a blind eye
IF YOU'RE BRITISH - BUY BRITISH

Were in the EU now, were not allowed to stop bringing in the m,eat from other countries otherwise we would get a HUGE fine for doing so. Something Jamie said about the freedom of movement of produce
& a prior post about we shoud be vegetarian is b****x, why should be deprive ourselves, we just want healthy meats. How can this be healthy meats when they pump full of water & PHOSPHATES - google it if you dont know what they are - they're not good

Boys - if you are thinking of buying this then think of the poor piglets just a few days old that have their testicles chopped off without anaesthetic while squealng their little hearts out. This is what happens to european pigs to allegedly make the meat taste better. It's not done in the UK so buy British!
