I just popped into my local Sainsbury's (Hove) and found this fab offer - I picked up a 2.3kg leg for £9 absolute bargain.

They had run out last night but the lady said they were expecting more from head office today so I don't think it is just a locally offer and sorry not sure how long its on for. But definately worth stocking up while it is!

Was the meat frozen or fresh?

Hi - fresh and they were English :-)

We bought one of these - brill price. Also, if you like beef that is 1/3 off too!

its a wigig offer, they always struggle to meat demand so id be suprised if they last past tuesday tbh

So you eat the legs, what happens to the little body and head?

Well, the body will be butchered into the cuts below, and I should imagine meat from the head is reclaimed to use in budget meals or pet food, though could be roasted whole.

Not usually considered viable to spend the time boning them, though there is an ethnic market for sheep's heads

2.3kg leg for £9=£3.91 a kilo - seems decent value.

I like lamb this time of year (normally about it's cheapest in September, so we are nearly there!) Still young enough to be tender, and mature enough to have the right flavour, (not like the more insipid ultra-expensive spring lamb) as well as at it's lowest price :-)

I prefer the shoulders for flavour & succulence, as well as a lower price generally, the reason being is it is a little fatty - it needs a lot of time boning out & trimming of the fat to get around this, more time than the butcher will give it, but it is excellent if you do take the time yourself.

Still full price in my local, £9.40/kg. Also full price on their website?
