Wow! Hope this is nationwide

hope so to, popping into Borehamwood store after work

is this nationwide?

Unless Sainsburys stock a different type, these have plummeted in quality. They used to be comparable to Napolina etc. but now they are no better than SmartPrice/Value tomatoes - the juice they are in looks more or less like red water as opposed to the thick tomato sauce it used to be.

(Obviously at 12 for £2 though it's still a great buy)

Tins of chopped plum tomatoes are pretty much tins of chopped plum tomatoes. Are you suggesting that they are chopped differently or that they contain something other than chopped tomatoes?

No they aren't... The last lot of KTC tinned tomatoes I got in Sainsburys were only 60% tomatoes - meaning that the tin was full of watery juice. When I've bought them in ASDA the label hasn't specified the % of tomatoes, but it was obviously higher as it was in a thick sauce (like the consistency of Dolmio etc.) whereas the 60% ones were basically in water.

I'm just curious whether all KTC tomatoes now only have 60% tomatoes in them, or if it's just the type Sainsburys get.

Hmmmm - so are you reasoning that the quality of tomatoes can't vary?

I can definitely tell you that the cheaper tinned tomatoes are usually much lower quality than the decent ones. This is one of the many cases where you get what you pay for. The cheaper ones are often much less mature fruits (yes I said fruits) that have watery juice and much less taste. That's the reason you pay more for any decent tomatoes - they take longer to mature, and aren't force-grown in the same way.

This is, of course, not a 100% rule, just as in anything like this, but suggesting that tomatoes are tomatoes, and that's that is definitely misguided...!

fyi plum tomatoes are inserted into a tin, and then the juice is added later in the manufacture

the juice is a different thing to the tomato essentially being seasoned/sweetened etc.. so it is not a case of the juice from the tomatoes inside the can being used

Thanks - seems like it's a product-wide reduction in quality then.

Hmm might get some chick peas for fishing if they are in my local.

how many maximum u buy from the store

Got them when they were 24 for a fiver

Flaming roasting hot deal. Have some heat for your find OP. I get through an awful lot of these. Hope they have the chick peas too!!

Great deal! Been using Napolina for a while, don't think I could go back to unbranded!

As for chick peas, I can highly recommend East End. They're not infrequently on offer in Tescos (3 or sometimes 4 for £1) and are great quality.

just update forgot to do earlier. I did eventually find this offer hidden away on a back facing shelf. there was only 1 pack of beans and chicks peas left. with big label of £2.80 as someone pointed out BUT was £2 at till so offer mentioned here is correct. I asked the worker if they had any tomato's in the back either she didn't want to check or she was telling the truth, basically said the night staff will reload shelves over night otherwise what they have on shelf is all they got.

seeing as the store is outside my work I'll be getting there at opening time! lol

Theres talk that ALL the supermarkets are rigging prices and government are turning a blind eye (as was Labour before they were kicked out) and I be;lieve it too. Just as gas/electric and oil are also doing so - meanwhile the so called lefties are more interested in ranting at the rest of us words that end in -ism and -phobia instead of actually living up to the term "leftie" and fighting for the working man (weekend socialists is what they are)
Er.....sorry for the rant....,.brought on by erm....tins of tomatoes...... X)

sold at £2.80 then reduced to £2.. probably a clearance following Ramadan & Eid considering this is a brand retailed in the asian section of the supermarkets.. hardly rigging of prices

presume it will be in the asian stores until stock is sold out
