Rather than yet another warning about the baitt-and-switch Kingston V300 (current version is far, far slower than the reviewed version), let me just copy what I wrote the last time it came up:

Think HUKD really needs a sticky feature to warn people about the awful Kingston 300.

Kingston are baitt-and-switch cowboys and should be boycotted.

EDIT: 505A was the original version, 512A is the current version. No way it's the same drive whatsoever.

Even after they've put up a benchmark brief on their website explaining the situation? It's not as if they're Samsung, modifying their firmware to make it impossible to tell the difference between versions (on the 226BW screen).

Time to reward a good response, take up the boycott again if they repeat it with another model.

Anyway, that seems like a lot PR spin and I would take independent test of Kingston's over own as Kingston's SSD reputation is currently zero.

Obviously, Kingston's response is better than ignoring it, but even their own tests show a massive performance difference for 4KB read/write. Avoid.

Performance variation on a model isn't the issue, the issue was that they didn't tell you about it. If it's the way they want to do things then it's perfectly reasonable for them to sell models with variable performance as long as it meets the specs they give and they inform reviewers and customers that it will vary.
