I have a John Lewis e-gift card and it says it can be printed and used in store at JL or Waitrose.

Not to be a pedant but...

it's a 11.1% saving / minimum spend £1125 since you have to spend the full 1000 to get the 125 voucher

Still a great deal!
Yes it is a good deal, but you’d struggle to find a John Lewis purchase that can’t be bettered by a greater margin elsewhere, with better customer service.

Never knowingly undersold would be an option but getting them to honour their own terms is extremely difficult.

Have you had a bad experience recently? I've found their price match to be reasonable, though granted they don't do online stores

Every time I'm afraid, though they do tend to be for substantial amounts. Usually takes a complaint to the CEO to sort it, but frankly I'm not too bothered now because their customer service is so bad now that you might as well shop elsewhere.

Couple of Note 9s last time selling at almost twice the Samsung Stores price. They used every trick in the book to avoid the perfectly correct claim, and finally agreed it after a fuss. Bought them from the Samsung Store, with the additional benefit of interest free credit.
What if you bought an oven then returned it? They let you keep the gift ??

Kindest regards

What was their excuse, out of interest?

No excuse - just the usual apology. They know exactly what they're doing, and they also know that most people will just accept the decision without challenge. I even half suspect there's some kind of bonus system in play!

Read the T&C’s, clearly states in there
Can you use the Gift Card to pay off any credit balance you have with JL?
I know with House of Fraser you could use their gift vouchers to pay off balance on FraserCard

JL do 12 months 0% on spend of £1000 or more so could work out nicely
