£929 for the black edition with type cover
The £779 price tag is without the pen.

They force you??? Did the heavies from Microsoft come round and force you to get it. Your wife might fall for that excuse but my wife won't sadly.

Is that only for certain people?
I was really hoping for this to come down to £749 and £899 for the model up (256gb). That was with the better (Signature) type cover.

I have the £100 Amex offer saved to my card and bought the £899 one for £799 last time.

I don’t know anyone who uses the Surface without the Type Cover. Though it is a very good keyboard and touchpad, it is expensive. I got mine through CeX for about £50.

Good model but that 128GB SSD is also another sticking point at this price level.

Yes, I guess so, amex offers in general are targeted but I happen to have it on mine
isnt the pro 7 coming out in October? maybe wait but this seems like a good price if u have the amex deal too

its the bundle you were looking at well they cant be a bundle with another accesory

you can also buy the tablet itself
Amazing laptop/tablet, annoying though when you want to use in bed and battery degrades quite fast. Mine only lasts around 2 hours now.
Not that great of a deal, was £700 a few months ago. 256gb (minimum size you should go for ) was £849
version 7 should be out quite soon?
Does Amex offer hotukdeals.com/dea…343 is applicable to this item ?

If yes then it is a great deal !

This device is incomplete without the keyboard tbh, it's a great device but it's the adaptability that is it's entire selling point. If you're not looking for that I'd look elsewhere
Since their non upgradeable they should do them 16GB as standard

What? Your surface pro 6 lasts two hours!? Mine still lasts ages, and so it should it's the latest model.

I didn't think it would be out until mid next year from what I previously read a while back somewhere, but it would be good to know if it's sooner if you have a source?
Good laptop replacement, bad tablet replacement, in my opinion.
Feels like it should cost about £500 to me.
This is particularly good, now that the amex offer is back. I'm still certain that we'll see a new surface later this year.
What is the Amex offer? I cant see it on any of my cards 😫 and did it come back recently please?
Love my surface. Had such a chunky laptop now I have this, a pen, wireless mouse and nice carry bag. It's pretty as hell love it
Dammit, had the Amex offer last time this came around, not this time though sadly
Was so going to bite at this time too.

I've got the SP4 and my battery still last around 5hrs. I'd suggest you speak to Microsoft if yours is really bad!
Amex offer is "Spend £400 or more, get £100 back. Available online only"
Offer ends on 15/09/19 - not sure if this part is card holder specific.

Must be, not showing on my app :,(
No education discount any more, shame. As a teacher got a discount on my current Surface. Can't justify spending this much to upgrade .....

They do a 16GB model for those who require 16GB

8GB is fine for most users, for heavy users browsing 300 tabs whilst running Adobe premiere etc get the 16GB model

iPad Pro doesn't come with a keyboard either (and it's more expensive than the Surface's). Any wireless keyboard/mouse will work with this; there are also 3rd party versions on Amazon for around £40 with official ones starting at £70-80. This bundle comes with it anyway!

Expandable via microSD though. Large files (movies, pics, music etc) and downloads can be kept there (also a USB 3.0 port). iPad Pro starts at 64Gb with no expandable storage and it's only £10 cheaper than this - with a smaller screen, no keyboard and a mobile OS!

You’re preaching to the converted... iPad Pro is a good media consumption device and has an OS tailored to touch, Windows is not - doesn’t matter how Microsoft spins it. You can use an iPad comfortably without a keyboard but not a Surface. You can use any keyboard you’re right but why spend this much on a premium machine and get some useless budget keyboard off Amazon, just get the thing it needs and deserves - the Type Cover keyboard is very good anyway as is the glass touchpad.

MicroSD expansion is fine but it’s not the same as internal storage. It’s slower, access times and random read/write is behind.

Microsoft should just include the Type Cover anyway, it shouldn’t need to be a bundle. I know this is an unpopular thing to say, but the iPad is basically an expensive toy - I use mine all the time but never for proper work.

Why do you say you can't comfortably use the surface as a media consumption device 'without a keyboard' ? Yet you say you can with the iPad?

In my experience I've used Windows tablets to spin movies on with great ease. Maybe you're doing it wrong?

Windows just isn’t the optimal platform for media consumption on tablets - the obvious choice there is Android, iOS or even a Chrome OS device. Don’t be condescending and say ‘I’m doing it wrong’... you’re not Steve Jobs. I can’t think of a single person who bought a Surface to use for media consumption first and foremost - not, as a secondary function.

I didn't say it's it's "first and foremost function".

I asked why you had a problem with it playing movies (or "consuming media" in your words), when it's extremely simple and very easy to "consume media" via windows tablets.

Perhaps you are doing it wrong. There are many options available to manage media via windows, the software base is unparalleled. Just saying.

Edit:

The surface doesn't have to be a singular "optimal platform for media consumption" (Whatever that means?? And the iPad is?) think you're really missing the point of the device use cases here.

It's a beautiful movie hub controller, streaming device, and so much more! Win win.. right?

Re: keyboard
Those with less cash can even get the lower cost tablet plug a £9.99 keyboard into it and reap the benefits there.. word processing, shortcuts, programming etc. It's great that you can have both worlds available, for people who can appreciate it the flexibility sells itself.

And I didn't say you couldn't use it as a media device. I said Windows isn't tailored for it, it's almost always doing something in the background, runner hotter and consuming more power than it needs to compared to a mobile-optimised OS. Yes, you can just use VLC and drop content onto it, but it's overly-complex for the majority. With iOS and Android, you can be fairly sure that if you put something on it will play fine, without stuttering or interruption from virus scans or Windows Update nagging and will focus on playing your content, not whatever else it wants to do in the background.

To add to your point, I think the Surface is a good all-in-one device if I could only ever have one device, but it's not optimal - we are always looking for the best devices for a given task aren't we?

Actually you did say that you can't comfortably use the surface to consume media without a keyboard.

To which I merely asked why you find it so difficult when others find it so easy.

EDIT:

Too "overly complex"

Oh dear. Okay so for the benefit of those curious about video playback on the surface:

It's incredibly easy. Really, go get a demo by someone who knows how to use the device. It's so incredibly simple to play movies.

A 6 year old could do it honestly. Don't let this put you off a slick system.

how does this compare to a similar specced laptop in price? Will i get a similar specced laptop lots cheaper?

I have a surface pro 3 that my GF kindly brought me 2 years ago, but because its not even an I3 (its the lower than that one - m 3?!) its really struggling now. But i love it otherwise and hapy to run it into the ground!

Also - this AMEX deal, can i apply for the card and still get it or need to already be a user?

Thanks
Dan
