25mb/14mb usb3 ???

Not the same as they used to be. A few years ago these were moving 40MB/s (read and write). That in itself was really only USB 2 speed territory. Incidentally I was never able to solve a problem of these ones not working in the USB socket of my router whilst they were fine in my TV and computer. Maybe by keeping the price about the same and 'cheaping' out on the speed they solved that niggling issue, but this isn't a deal in my mind.

Daft question but why is this memory so much cheaper than ssd memory? Aren't they largely the same.

can get consumer drives that are 100 times as fast as this memory, obviously costing much more but most ssd are going to be at least 10x as fast probably

There are much faster ones for just a few quid extra. For example, the pny with a speed of 80MB/s is £3 more.

Got a free 16GB unit [with a recent purchase]; if this is using the same technology it's a slow device and I personally would avoid whatever the price.
