Any idea if they let you swap for a different cylinder on future purchases? I prefer propane so if I could swap bottles at no cost when it runs out I may order one.

I realise that but Calor dealers let you swap any bottle for any other one (size or gas type irrelevant) when you buy a refill. I was wondering if they offer the same deal so once it runs out I can swap for propane. Nothing on the website in FAQ's so I've emailed them.

They won't swap cylinder types, I've asked them previously, propane incurs a deposit charge, no exceptions they said.

Calor will allow you to swap cylinder types but ultimately costs the end user through deposit charges.

Best bet is Gumtree for a used cylinder, scrapyards (if thats what you mean by 'dump'?) cannot take gas cylinders unless the valve is removed, thus deeming them useless.

They have a cage full of them at my local dump...I'm not convinced those that are leaving them there are all removing valves beforehand!
I got propane from these last year , I had no bottle to swap and there was no extra charge.

can use either for a BBQ but you would have to swap regulators if you want butane as most come with a propane regulator
I bought from them last week, great service and cheapest around.
Do they supply in Northern Ireland as we have the most expensive bottled gas in the UK.

You need to determine which regulator you have, 'mostly' but not all of the time the colour is a good indication, blue = butane, red = propane, BUT this is not always the case.

The regulator should tell you on it which cylinder it is suitable for, or do you have an existing cylinder..?

It will more than likely be either a 21mm clip butane regulator as in pic in post 1, or a 27mm clip on propane regulator.

I swapped out an 11kg leisure propane for a 13kg butane, no questions asked. He was just about to say about the regulator difference when I stepped and said I had both. That was last week. they let me swap a different bottle the year before as well
If you want to save your money, please take a look at the previous "deal" for this company.

You will notice I mention that a company called WOLDLINK will supply all types of gas cheaper than these people...it's a fact.

Save your money and thank me later. (_;)

Why do you prefer propane?

They are easy to swap, you may find you have a jubilee clip or it could be crimped. Replace it with a jubilee clip if you find its a crimped one as they are 'one use only' apart from that you need to give it a really good tug to pull it out of the tube. Make sure your check for leaks with some soapy water after.

To be honest, I've not been properly gas BBQing long enough to make a fair comparison. I used Butane for a couple of seasons on a cheapo DIY store BBQ about 10 years ago, hated gas BBQing so went back to Charcoal. This year I had a porch built on the back of the house and bought a Weber Q gas for everyday BBQing while keeping my charcoal kettle for 'proper' BBQ's. While researching gas for the Q, most people suggested propane, one reason being it works better in cold weather and as the porch/Weber Q set up was put together with all year round cooking in mind I felt it was the better option.

I think (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong) there is now different regulators for butane, propane and 'patio gas' which appears to be propane under a different name. All regulators are well under a tenner and simple to fit with a jubilee clip. The propane and patio gas regulators are both red but fit differently.

Lack of online ordering is where there losing sales.

If you look at the previous thread, you'll notice that the OP (the same one on this thread) calls them to check and he agrees with me.

HUKD don't deem WOLDLINK to be a suitable merchant due to the fact that they won't get a kick back (_;)

They were £18.85 for butane, as previous, lack of online ordering is losing them sales.

They were the cheapest in the country BUT I'm guessing HUKD won't allow them because they don't have any advertising whatsoever of there pricing and price may vary depending on location...?

Monkeybumcheeks post re WoldLink - excellent advice!!!

Ordered 13kg butane from them with a 21mm valve (choice is available) on a Thursday afternoon, delivered 3 working days later on the following Tuesday.
There is no online ordering - you will have to phone and speak to a real person (Diane or Robert usually), they'll take card payment over the phone (free for debit card, 2% charge for credit card) and are lovely!

Gas is actually delivered by FloGas, with Flogas delivery note!

Oh, price, nearly forgot!

£18.85 + 5% VAT = £19.79 No deposit required, no exchange bottle required and free delivery to boot!

Can't beat that

if you need the regulator alongside this 13kg bottle of Butane then have a look on eBay as Gas deal are also doing an offer that you can get the gas and regulator for less than £30 which saves another couple of pounds
Nice find op
Blood hell I pay 13 euros for a refill of a 12kg bottle in Spain. I never realised gas is so pricey in the UK.

Not really.
Got this last year and it's still going strong unlike the tine B&Q one that used to cost me £25 a time to fill a couple of times a summer
I used these people once and wasn't impressed.

They delivered my gas to the wrong street, took 4 weeks to sort it out!

First they claimed that it was delivered outside my house, and wouldn't budge on that stance. Luckily i have CCTV and easily proved this wrong, they eventually owned up and said that it was returned the day after they delivered it but they couldn't tie it up with any order.

Once they agreed it was their mistake they rescheduled delivery for the following week (why do i need to wait a week because of their mistake??)

That didn't arrive and the excuse was that the van broke down, so i had to wait again.

Terrible experience, but if nothing goes wrong you get cheap gas.

A deal isn't just about price though, it's the whole package. voted cold

Compared with the DIY stores, petrol forecourts, garden centres etc IMO it is a good find.

Majority still use the aforementioned, this thread is a heads up for all those folks who pay 3 or 4 times this from the like of Calor.

I had a similar experience. They tried to deliver to the wrong house number several times. It was an on line order and i entered my house number correctly. I got the gas in the end. I've found out since i can get cheaper locally, but they are OK.

Correct propane will burn better in colder weather, butane won't turn to gas if its too cold but we're talking near freezing.
