Typical British attitude...when a Brit get caught breaking the law abroad, it is always the fault of that country and its "corrupt" judicial system. I thought those accusations are made only against the likes of Dubai,Singapore or Egypt when Brits caught smuggling drugs but it looks now that even EU countries are corrupt in British opinion

have you been reading the news today? most people have been saying to …have you been reading the news today? most people have been saying to boycott Cyprus over the matter.

If you mean the incident with a young lady last year I am perfectly aware. I was staying 10 minutes away from where it occured when the alleged incident happened and followed the story from day 1. We all have opinions, there are 2 sides to every story. Do you not think it's a little like saying don't visit London because you may he involved in a terror attack, don't visit Birmingham or you might get stabbed or shot, don't go to Paris, Barcelona etc, the list goes on. Cyprus has a very low crime record and is a damn site safer than the UK!
Would anyone take a child to Ayia Napa
The Police are like the mafia there. The bar and restaurant owners are terrified of them. Don't believe me, then ask them next time you go.
Our friends got their room ransacked. They took everything including passports/credit cards/money.
All they had was the clothes they were stood in.
Hotel refused to call the Police. Eventually the holiday rep called the Police.
They all went to the Police station. They then disappeared for the day.
Turns out our friends were arrested on fraud charges. So was the holiday rep!
The only way they would let them leave if they signed a document saying they admitted committing an insurance scam.
They were told to leave the country immediately. Which they couldn't do because their passports/tickets had been stolen.
They had to go to the British Embassy to get emergency travel docs. They left the next day. (so did we!)

I should state that the actually people there are fantastic. The bar and restaurant owners were so welcoming. Shame about the Police.

No thanks
I wouldn’t
Jesus that's expensive. Also as stated above. Who would take a child to that part of Cyprus
Ayia Napa in October is lovely, it's nearly end of season and the idiots have gone home.
It's probably a reasonably good deal Louise; but right now not a good suggested place to visit! Looking forward to your next post though.

A lovely place so just my thoughts; didn't they tried to sort out problems (reduce the lager lout image?) a while ago but are still trying - maybe too hard? Okay, if you can look after yourself well and avoid problem areas; but for a child - personally I wouldn't.

And have just seen your 'Ayia Napa in October is lovely, it's nearly end of season and the idiots have gone home.' post, so maybe with kids in October is fine.

Looks like a few people don't follow the new
Edited by: "slevinkelevra" 5th Jan
There are crimes everywhere in the world, it's like not going to Portugal because of the McCann situation. Yes it's more recent and ongoing in courts and news but no different to elsewhere.

Or maybe they do but are not small minded :/

They are still trying, CCTV being installed before this years season. When I'm there in high season I avoid the main club areas in the evening, nearer the harbour is beautiful and very safe with great restaurants and beaches. Unfortinately the main issues are the young brits, it's embarrassing to be fair.

Oh i am sorry, yes i did mean the incident i was responding to your question of 'for what reason' i obviously fell for that one hook line and sinker! i don't want to start a debate on money saving forum site thanks. And to answer your other question of don't you think its like a terror attack not to visit that particular country...no i don't as in this case Cyprus covered it up to protect themselves from loss of tourism over the matter so hence why people are deciding to boycott especially after the revelation of today's news.
Boycott the small-minded social justice Warriors!

Like I say, two sides to every story and I won't go into more detail but for anyone not wanting to boycott Cyprus over it, this is quite a good deal and the weather is still beautiful at that time of year.

I think the issue is not who is guilty or not, it is rather related to the rigidity and the fairness of the trial. Apparently some evidence was not take in consideration, the person's human rights were ignored, also some legal steps apparently were not followed.

Didn't want to mention the videos but yes, 2 sides to every story. I certainly will not be cancelling my holidays for Cyprus and will be bringing my 17 year old daughter with me too!

I agree, I doubt our foreign secretary would get involved if it was not so.

But nothing's been proven as yet. But people have already passed judgement. The last 3.5 years, have been the death nail of any reasoning, in this country with the Brexit debacle.
That’s a great deal for Cyprus. Visited the island many times. Ayia Napa is what you make it, you don’t have to visit the square. The comments on here are unfair.
Can you imagine if she is actually telling the truth? Her lieing is probably just as bad if not worse
Have we all forgotten about The Peru two. Look how that turned out!!!

Yes, nothing's been proven but there are probably question marks. Otherwise the foreign Secretary would have not got involved. Especially in a democratic country such as Cyprus. How many times have you seen the British government getting involved in such cases? Not many times!
