Quality Street was named after a JM Barrie (of Peter Pan fame) play, and the two figures on the box were originally inspired by the two principal characters, Phoebe Throssel and Valentine Brown. When it was launched in 1936, Quality Street cost two shillings (10p), equivalent to £3.69 in todays money. Almost seven million Quality Street sweets are manufactured every day at the Nestl?owntree factory in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Laid end to end, a weeks production would stretch from Halifax to London three times over

Did you know...

The most popular sweet in Quality Street is the hazelnut in caramel.
Around 30% of the Quality Street made in the UK is exported to 70 countries, including the Middle East, France, Denmark and Canada, where it is particularly popular.
Nestl?owntree exports eight times as much Quality Street to Iceland than France per head of population. Why? Because the brand in its tin format is so popular with trawlermen and other sailors wishing to buy a gift for the family that can be kept on board ship for several months until they get home
