Thanks for the post, just ordered 6. Great price.

Not sure how you managed that when it's "one per customer".

Oooh tempting! i'm looking at buying 2 new hard drives:P

1.5TB at this price is worth buying  should I get one? or shouldn't I?

The new samsungs are throwing up an awful lot of SMART errors and being RMA'ed. Nobody seems to know if it is important or an irrelevant error and Samsung are remaining strangely quiet on the issue.

just found out you need to go to avforums.com/for…php via avforums and have at least 20 posts . luckily i do

I am using all 4 sata connectors on my mobo - is it possible to run two devices off one cable like you could with ide - alternatively would I lose any performance if I ran my optical drive off an ide connector with a convertor?

Great price. Remember paying £110 for a Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB SATA II HDD from Dabs a few months back (April I believe). Prices are really starting to fall, which is great news! :-D

Cheekster.

Just got one, along with one of these:

No you can't, although a cheap SATA PCI card can be had for under £20.

If you're looking to add a lot more HDs though, you should check you PSU can handle that many.

More to the point if you store 3690 action packed games I dread to think what your start menu looks like.

It's quite simple. Goto the main site and click on "Today Only" on the left hand navigation then find the drive and add to the basket from there.

I'm feeling thick today ! I'm getting the correct price for the drive, but not the free delivery. Argghhh !

Hi, u cant run two sata devices on one cable, as you can on ide.

You can look at item 230368586222 (£2.12) on a famous auction site for a sata to ide converter and if you are going to be using an optical drive on the ide, i really dont think you will notice a significant difference in performance.

Alternatively, you can add more sata connections to your computer by getting a pci card. I.e for £6.89 you can get a 3 sata port pci card (390082692225). Just make sure they support and handle sata II devices without downgrading their performance.

Thanks

I have one of the first mentioned devices already (use it in the other direction btu won't work on a boot drive but that is another story). Was just wondering if I would notice any performance issues if using it on my optical drive.

I understand that this is a 5400 drive and only draws a dozen watts max?

I don't have evidence of anything. Even the links for F1 are anecdotal. My biggest problem with samsung is that they have been slow to address the problem - or even say if it is a problem - or which drives are affected.

Step closer to building my silent pc!
Thanks

main reason why i stick to the market leaders - seagate and wd...i know they are not perfect but the most reliable out of the bunch in my eyes, get the seagate 7200.12 or caviar black series, for a few extra £ i don't think it's worth going for cheapos

I think samsung is a market leader - at least as big as seagate. You should read what ppl think of seagate RMA on the forums. Just saying.

see for yourself who is market leader

harddrivebenchmark.net/30d…tml

personally i wouldn't buy anything else than 7200.12 and the caviar blacks simply due to reliability, as i see it if youre going to spend x amount of money on a hard drive make it last

Just got it today... brilliant drive!

Though the dual sata enclosure I got alongside it doesnt come with a UK power cable. So got them to send out a new one... taking too long, and I found a UK style cable with the same fitting. Damn thing doesnt power on! "My" cable powers the PSU fine (I see the light on the PSU) but the enclosure itself is dead.

Something always seems to go wrong when I order from scan...

The price is now £74.51 without delivery cost. Not such a good deal as a number of retailers are doing a similar price with delivery too.
