There's an aldi right down the road from where I live :whistling:

Does it not seem a bit expensive for the spec?

Specs are VERY good for this price HDMI 8 cell battery 2.10 GHz, 2MB L2 cache.

I am tempted ... but ALDI !!! ... Don't be a snob Miar

This will get its knockers as usual ... but let em post a similar spec and I'll have that one now .

screen res seems poor for 16" I would have expected 1920x1080 (or the 16:10 equivalent). I've got 1280x800 on a 15" screen I think that's not good.

Also doesn't have gigabit ethernet which is a little lacking I think...

agreed the medion laptop has a higher spec than the ones madedixonscry posted, even tho the gt220 is a low end card its better than the graphics card on the two laptops madedixonscry suggested.

I need to edit and burn some AVCHD footage. Will this do that even if it takes a week as I don't want to buy a desktop just for a one or two off job.

Didn't see this thread originally so thanks to bloaty for the original post but also thanks to cameraboy who posted a duplicate thread today which I did see and was replying to when it got deleted.

My in-laws had promised to buy my son a laptop if he got into Uni.

He's succeeded so they set a budget of around £350 - £400 and off he went to have a look in Comet and PC World.

He couldn't make his mind up and when checking HUKD today I found this thread. E-mailed the link to him and he decided this was the one he fancied. He offered to put the extra £100 in but his Gran and Granda very generously said they'd pay it if he was sure it was exactly what he was after.

I wasn't very hopeful there would be any in stock given when it went on sale so told him he might be disappointed. Off we went to the nearest Aldi and sure enough the guy said they'd all sold out pretty much straight away. He gave us a number we could call to check stock in other stores but typically the office was closed for the weekend.

Decided to try an Aldi further away and found, much to his delight, that they had one left.

Duly purchased and he's currently at his Gran's setting it up. From the quick look I had it seems a very well-made machine and he's made up with it.

So thanks to cameraboy, would have missed this lappy otherwise.

Cheers,

PCWorld = Dixons=********s

Never bought anything from them that has ever worked for over 7 days!!!
And have taken 6 months to repair ('specialist diode needed from Japan') at times.

Plus their PC knowledge consists of endlessly repeating ' and this one is faster than that one because.....' {insert complete garbage}...

And don't talk to me about the 'PC WorldTechGuys'... who know less about PCs and computers in general than your average member of a lost Amazonian tribe....

Now ... Aldi.... no in-store knowledge but they profess none.... but do provide excellent and extremely reliable goods with guarantees you can rely on in the extremely unlikely event you need to call on it...
