A £50 media centre is cold?

Well I never..

I've not voted as I've owned a few devices, not too dissimilar to this one, where the UI was so bad I had to return them. Great on paper, bad in use.

Edit to say that I haven't tried this one but previous ones took forever and often crashed if you had a large music or video collection.

I'm a bit confused as well. Waiting for someone to give a reason before I vote..

Heat and Rep applied, although this may be an uphill stuggle against people who are comparing this to external HDDs only.

Guys voting cold, this is a media player as well as a HDD, perfect for playing *ahem* videos from your PC on your TV.

Hot, honest.

Sounds like a cool device, but I'm after one that has wireless connectivity to the computer as well..

perhaps because 500gb HDD media player can be made/bought around £80, giving it a better cost per giga

its cold for me, sorry

Sorry, yeah, should have put in there that you can connect it straight to your TV. No burning DVD's or anything like that....

Edited.

Yikes, I didn't know that, although some linkage would be nice!

HDD prices have came down so fast this year, If someone had told me that 1TB HDDs could be bought for £70 a year or so ago I would have laughed, lots.

Christ, I remember having to pay around £2 per Gigabyte when buying HDD's....

£82 + Delivery, AND doesn't have HD output (The OPs has componant video output).

Also, your google results are full of US links and fleabay, hardly a fair comparison either!

no hdmi puts me off.

even if the price for the 500GB with (HD output) IS £100 its still giving a better £/gig (0.2) as compared to OP (160/51 or around 0.32). so there is plenty of room there. Even the £125-130 1000GB media player gives you better value

secondly, i dont read anywhere in the OP that it is a Hi Def media player. If the problem is only component output, I am sure you can buy cable converter for less than a tenner

But, ive present my case... it sup to you if this is better

This may not be 500gb but its the cheapest you will find a media player if cost is your limiting factor,I have had several of these and though the fan is a little loud it is probably the same on all the others,as someone else said the UI is a bit dated but have yet to see one that is much of an improvement,One of the best things this can be used for is viewing your digital photos on you HD tv, they really do look fantastic,
For the price Hot
If you van find cheaper please post like for like
Tony

for the guy that wanteda wireless version, Viking direct have a sale that includes a wireless media centre and its the good one (cant remember its name) that gets rave reviews, about £120 i think

I bought one of these in the Bofferthon recently. Awesome is all I can say. Load it up with movies n tv shows and I can now watch stuff on my big screen telly as opposed to sitting in front of the computer. UI is not bad at all. Voted HOT HOT HOT.

Me too love it:-D And they may have it in next weeks Boffer sell off again:thumbsup:

I got one as well, simple to use and setup, and it was only £43
The HD can be swapped for a larger one as well

few others to look at...
Freecom 350 or 450
Lacie Silverscreen and Lacinema

I've seen the Cyclone case, just add HDD of your choice, advertised for £28... google is your friend
