I think we all need to look at it from a energy perspective. What kind of computer with 840m and a ULV cpu are you going get for less than £500. There are not many out there that can meet this spec. Your going to use at least £30 less electricity a month since majority of gaming desktops suck power like no tomorrow.

Who here does all night gaming sessions raise your hand? That is 12 hours x 15p a kwh = £1.80.
If you have XFIRE/SLI you will use just about 1000 watts a hour.

Put get this laptop and your use 95% less power! Your saving money just by buying this. 95% of £1.80 is £1.71. that is a huge saving.

Lets say you all save £30 a week in the process by using a ULV laptop!

Your save £360 a year! In 2 years the laptop will work out literally free!

thanks for posting! heat

I want to know if it can arma 3 what settings and fps

Nice specs, if only the screen was 1920x1080 and not 1600x900

your not really going to put a 840m on 1080p for gaming. A radeon r9 280 can only just handle 1080p gaming. 840m is more like a desktop 820 GT.

The reviews are not good. Most people are complaining about the touchpad not being useable. Only 36% would recommend this computer. Price is great but not if it's poorly built.

That depends on the game. A Radeon R9 280 will handle a heck of a lot of games at 1080p just fine.

5400rpm hdd, wtf poor. first thing i would do is replace with ssd or 7200rpm hdd.

do the latest games require a quad core or would this i7 do the job?

How long is the battery life approximately?

Some recent games will benefit from a quad core, but this is still perfectly adequate.

Use the 12% off code. 529/100*12=63.48. £529 - £63.48 = £465.52

I wouldn't worry about not being quad core, the GPU is too weak for any serious gaming.

Multi threading is only really needed for 1st person shooters. Majority of games require strong single or dual threads.

Agree. Laptop should be about saving power, mobility and having something which you can be comfortable with using for daily tasks.

Alienware have 15% off. if you want a gaming laptop, buy a gaming laptop

Would this happily run Lightroom and video editing programs?

Is the touch pad really that bad? That aside, based on price is there likely to be a better spec laptop on the horizon?

I don't think you can combine this with the VIP codes too.

These overheat like a ****. I sent mine back due to throttling.

isn't throttling to do with your ISP ?

jasonhalls904

You shouldn't have to do this - but open it up, remove heatsink and clean the crappy paste and use something good like AC5 or similar and you'll see massive differences. I've done it on both Latitude & XPS and brought temps from 90+ to 70 or so - never thermally throttles. You can even bump turbo power/time for extra power and even then they don't hit 90 anymore (and that's before the 200 hours bedding in)

WOW. Just had a look at new XPS (have mine for 3 years now) and to be honest, regardless of all the fireworks, I wouldn't buy it. XPS should be about power and functionality and now you do not even get blu-ray drive nor LAN port. Yes, you can buy USB3.0 LAN port for extra 50 quid.

LOL

Good specs and pricing, but overheating is the worst thing about laptops that try to game. They work for about a year and a half and then the overheating starts to become annoying. Although, changing the thermal paste may do he trick as suggested above. May give that a go actually.

I got this laptop a month or two ago for £476.10 (they had an offer on, free delivery and I used a VIP code). Does everything I need it to do and probably much more - played through Diablo on it and it coped awesomely...but I'm just a girl so my opinion may not count!

sorry if you buy it for game dont buy, instead buy xboxone,or ps4.but if you use it for anything else it is very good price to get.,

Will this play Football Manager 2015 ok?

More importantly will this play minecraft and sims 4?

Great price. If it had Full HD, I would buy it, and with a touch screen it could be perfect.

I've just been looking at the specs....is this laptop touch screen or not?

An USB 3.0 Gigabit adapter is not that expensive - about 15 not 50 see Amazon.

I've not used a DVD/Blue-ray drive in my last 3 laptops - just mount the ISO off network with a virtual DVD driver (native Windows 8.x or use Virtual CloneDrive or similar). With large drives you could image your disks and store on a HDD/NAS?

I'm personally more worried about the internal battery that is very hard and expensive (even on eBay) and soldered memory on XPS 13, 12, 11, etc.

One more thing I miss is the 3G/LTE/WWAN option the old XPS had (e.g. M1330/1340). Also XPS 13 misses the SD card slot - now that's a crazy omission even the Air has one.

The trackpad is probably the weakest link even after switching to Synaptics from Cypress...

Good price heat added

The code 8$84W8J58ZXDM6 doesn't seem to work
