19 Crimes Wine - 4 Varieties - £7 @ ASDA

Found 14th MayEdited by:"BigDaveH"
19 Crimes wines - Highly rated and reviewed across the board. All reduced to £7 in Asda. Not keen on the white but reds are excellent. My favourites are The Uprising and The original 19 Crimes.

Celebrating the rules and culture of British rogues, who were sentenced to live in Australia, guilty of at least one of 19 crimes. Well balanced and rounded red wine, with plenty of red fruit and hints of oak and spice.

Reviews and Ratings

19 Crimes, has been named 'Wine Brand of the Year' by leading US wine industry title Market Watch

2939871.jpgDouglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Spicy plum with mushroom, mint, and cedar. plums and tart cherry dominate the taste, and the finish tends towards dark and tart cherry. There are some nice tannins as well giving it a pleasant mouth-feel.

2939871.jpgCourtney Flood rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Tart cherry, just-underripe berry, smoke, mint, and minerality. The palate is a little tannic, with green peppercorn notes follows the sour cherry. Long finish. This wine needs to be decanted and paired with food. A rich, fatty cut of red meat wiould be best to offset this heavy wine.

2939871.jpgChris Coughlin - WSET level 3 grad rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Lots of big fruit flavours, blackberry, black cherry, cooking spice, and a long lasting finish. Steak and burger wine.

2939871.jpgJennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Cool bottle. Rich deep purple. Very fruity, with blackberry and ripe red fruit on the aroma, and a hint of pepper. Tart and slightly sour cherry on the palate, with lots of oak. Tannins are medium. Overall, a big wine, needs some food to interact with, maybe grilled burgers.

2939871.jpgMatt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Dark cherry, dark berries, leather, with fresh cut hay on the nose. Palate shows dark berries, green pepper, with a long dark cherry finish. A lighter and more herbal style of Aussie Shiraz that's worth a try. Pair with peppercorn steaks.
Tasted August 2014. 87 points. Matt Steeves - @QuercusVino

2939871.jpgTom Vigeant reviewed this wine as follows:

Cherry and smoke aromas. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. Oaky and very dry. Alcohol is fairly intense. You really need to have this wine with food - grilled red meat being the obvious choice.

2939871.jpgCommunity Reviewer reviewed this wine as follows:

Dark red in the glass, its legs cascade slowly due to its concentration and power. Possessing aromas of licorice, dark fruits and vanilla, this theme carries through on the palate with loads of rich, sweet fruit all wrapped in chalky, ripe tannins with persistence and structure to support the concentration of flavour. A wine that boldly showcases the beauty of blending two varieties that match like hand and glove delivering a memorable wine with loads of personality.

I promise to try a bottle of yours if you promise to try a bottle of mine (deal).
19 Crimes is always £6.99 in B&M. The other varieties at this price are a good deal though.

I didn't like The Banished but I'll try Uprising for £7.

The Uprising is really good. I'm also not too keen on The Banished.

Don't agree. Nearly every red wine drinker that I've pointed towards 19 Crimes is now a regular drinker. That's not to say Nottage Hill is unpleasant.

£7 for "RedGrapeBlend". No thanks. I like to know what grape(s) I'm drinking.

Search for the reviews. I was sceptical, although willing to try. Blending grapes is becoming far more commonplace and after drinking this it's easy to see why.
Just a reminder- Many of the Worlds greatest wines are BLENDS- such as Bordeaux, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rioja, and Super Tuscans.
Ignore blended wines and you are missing out on many of the greatest treasures

Blended wines are as old as wine. I've drunk enough wine to know which grape varieties I like and which I don't like, so always look past the blurb to see what it's made with. I'm not drawn to "RedGrapeBlend" as it tells me nothing, other than that it could be anything, and there's no guarantee that either the grape varieties used or the proportions are always the same.. It could be, and probably is, anything.

The fact remains that the only way to truly know if you like it is to try it, as with anything in life, which is often full of surprises. Enjoy your day.

My New Go-To
I tried this wine based on all of the 5-star reviews, and the reviews are accurate. This wine is excellent. If you like this one, try 19 Crimes "The Banished" for an even more robust red blend. Both are exceptional!

So Surprisingly Good
A few years ago I was waiting for a beer refill at a bar in Vero beach, FL. Two guys next to me were raving about a red wine they were drinking. I had to ask them about it and it was 19 Crimes red blend. I had trouble finding a bottle but finally did in a wine store twenty miles south in Ft. Pierce. The guys were right and I've spread the word around here (VB) and now lots of my friends enjoy it. It is so surprisingly good!

The REAL Australian Gold !
Such a dark, full taste... not watery like most red blends. Very opaque & exciting to even look at in the glass...19 Crimes is a motley mouthful for true wine lovers: dark chocolate, savory spice, dark sumac & a lovely gulp of buttery aftertaste. Some reds pair with meat but 19 crimes is perfect without food... perfect for a way to relax after dinner.

+ Pros: i'll take 19 bottles of 19 crimes thank you

Nothing compares at this price.
Few compare at 2-3 times the price. After discovering this addictive blend, my wife and I prefer 19 Crimes Red Blend to the higher priced Meiomi Pinot Noir, as well as prefering The Banished, The Uprising, and The Warden. We have many dozens of these corks. For those asking, we found #19 in one of these, and one in a bottle of Banished before the specially marked sweepstakes bottles were released a month ago, now we have seven). At the 19 Crimes red blend price point, we used to buy Cloud Break Pinot Noir and Witching Hour Red Blend, but for us, they're comparatively boring.

+ Pros: deep red full bodied silky smooth...aromatic

Our favorite red wine!
Such a smooth full bodied wine for this price point! Has robust flavor of varied blackberry fruits. This is our favorite red wine which we buy by the case. We have given it as gifts with a printout of the 19 Crimes story to supplement the collectable corks that seal the bottle (i.e., each cork is branded with one of the 19 crimes that British rogues are punished by transportation to Australia). Friends all enjoy our gift immensely and many have since chosen this as their go to wine, too. If pinot noir is your favorite type of wine, try this. I think you will love this red blend as we do!

We are in the same boat as you! Love this wine, have collected 18 out of the 19 corks and have yet to hit upon a bottle with the 19th crime "Embeuling Naval Stores, in certain cases". Be sure to post if you ever get your hands on the lucky bottle!

Where is the 19th Crime Cork?
This is such a great tasting wine that we don't mind we have bought over one hundred bottles and have not found the 19th cork. We have at least 99 of 1 through 18 but think we will soon be stopping to try other great wines. 99 bottles of corks on the wall, 99 bottles of corks. You take one down and what do you get... 19? That's fine. Who are these people? Does their opinion matter to me? Which of the (however many there are) wines are they reviewing, and did they review what's in Asda now?
I've also seen people give rave reviews of M&S wine, and I've yet to experience a bottle of M&S wine that was even worth getting "free" with their dine in for £10 offers. (I only buy that because I've got vouchers to get rid of and their steaks are reasonable quality)
This has all the signs of clever(?) marketing rather than good wine. I prefer the latter.
