Might be compatible with the Acer asire one BUT the lengths you have to go too change the RAM is incredible. Far better not to bother or get 1GB in the first place as it also voids your warranty

Prefer the 2gb PNY memory from play.com for £11.99

Hmm, can't find this on the Play website (probably me being stupid)

Some PC's don't take 2Gb bars, Acer Aspire One and some other models accept max. 1 Gb in the slot(s).

To find out what RAM is compatible with your machine, use the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool on ]http//ww…com

After watching this it might be easier to build the thing from scratch.

Good price though and heat added ;-)

Tried to add more memory tonite to mine and managed to dislodge one of the keys and now it won't clip back on so gonna have to take it back and swap it for a replacement! Will perservere tho!

the 11.99 play.com stuff has gone up to around £15

Link in post doesnt seem to work, this is the correct memory i think.

Hmmm the link I originally entered was changed?!
(_id=102934 was missing at then end of the URL)
And the picture link was gone too?! That's weird.

Corrected the link, thanks!

This wil fit in my Advent 5421, so cheers. Hope its an easy install?

1MB of Ram is painful with vista - unsure whether to bang an extra 2gb in, or will an extra 1gb suffice??

EDIT The 2GB version is only 11.99 I think?

7dayshop.com/cat…355

I run an aspire one on the basic 512mb and it works fine, I can't imagine why you need to upgrade. Unless you are very competent at disassembly/assembly of very delicate kit you more than likely to regret taking your machine apart.
These are simple netbooks intended for running low demand applications. If you want to run Vista and 3d games etc then the aspire is not for you.

Should be pretty easy to upgrade. Turn your laptop over and you will find two or 3 flaps. Unscrew them one at a time with a precision screwdriver (you can get these from any pound shop) to find the bay with the memory chips for you to add/remove.
Worth checking what you have before you order. If you have 1 x 1Gb DIMM then you'll only need to order another 1Gb DIMM. If you have 2 x 512Mb then you'll have to remove them and order a 2Gb or 2 x 1 Gb. Another 1Gb should be enough to give a decent improvement.

Just watched that YouTube video for the Acer. So funny ! :-D

Wow that video makes it easy now. Leave the upgrade lol

I'm ok with PC's but something this small you need to have steady hands

I will be grabbing some of this to upgrade the wifes.

It's not as hard as it looks in the youtube video. If anyone has a Wii and taken that a part to see where the chips fit then this is no more difficult. Just keep a pair of tweezers handy like the guy in the vid in case you drop any of the small screws in to any crevice.

I've had laptops in bits before and they can be a nightmare. The boards and cables are ok, it's getting the case and bezel on and off cleanly that's the worst part

Not for the faint-hearted ! :?

I need the same type of ram for my Desktop PC but don't know what to buy as I've never decided to upgrade the RAM in my PC, looking to buy 2x 1GB sticks.

Heres the specs provided by a website:

Hello,

desktops PC's normally need 240-pin DIMM's (instead of the 200-pin modules that are being used in laptops; the 200-pin RAM is smaller). Unless yours is one of those fancy small desktops it will probably use 240-pin RAM (the image looks like 240-pin, there's a divider right in the middle, 200-pin looks different). If you click on the RAM tha crucial suggests, it will hopefully show you if you need 200 or 240

For a normal desktop you need 2x
]http//ww…275

2x1Gb should work in your desktop PC, just make sure that you buy the right type (200 or 240pin)

edit: you have 4 RAM slots (and two are empty), so if you buy 2x1Gb you'll have 3 Gb in total.
In some PC's you need to keep the memory pairs matched (like in mine = slot 1 = 512Mb, slot 2= 1Gb, slot 3= 512 Mb, slot 4= 1Gb, when I put 512Mb), you should be able to find out on the site of the (motherborad) mmanufacturer or via Google.

Thanks for the reply, couldn't have said it much better.

I've checked again on the Crucial website, they state I have to install a matched pair.

Also all the recommendations they have suggested are all for 240pin RAM sticks.

The way my slots are set up, I'm sure slot 1 and slot 3 has a 512mb stick and slot 2 and 4 are empty, I'd have to check again.

Just wondering now, how do I know I'm buying a matched pair, would I have to buy a package that has 2x 1GB sticks in one? Also does the speed the RAM can operate at matter as the 512mb RAM's states they run at 333Mhz, would I have to buy the same speed RAM's if I buy 2x 1GB or could I buy anything higher but make sure I buy a matched pair?

Thanks.

pibpob will be along soon with his eminent views

You're lucky: desktop RAM is normally slightly cheaper than laptop RAM :-)

PC2-5300 DDR2 RAM runs at 333Mhz (I/O Bus clock speed), so your 512Mb sticks are DDR2 PC2-5300 (confirms what the Crucial website told you).

Not necessary to buy a package with two sticks, but best to make sure you order two sticks from the same site/manufacturer/spec/model etc. then they will be identical.

Just open the PC, touch the metal of the case to get rid of static electricty, unplug the power cable) then stick the new RAM in the remaining empty slots (they click in guides at the side) and it should be picked up when you next boot up.

Good luck!

Shameless deal promotion here but if you want and there is stock near you can get 512mb for 1.47 so £3 for 1 gig. Downside is you need to use 2 slots...

If you're going to the lengths of taking it apart it's best to shell out for decent branded memory in the first place.

Not saying this stuff won't be compatible but we all know cheap memory can and does give problems. So not worth it for the sake of a couple of quid IMHO.

As for taking the machine apart, if you can get the keyboard off the rest is a logical dismantle. Yes it's not for the inexperienced but if you're competent and patient at taking things apart then you should be fine.
