Any PSU ~400W & above with 2x 6pin dedicated PCI-E connectors would do nicely. This one will do, & is featured regularly on Scan/todayonly page for £35 or less: ]EXPIRED - 700W FSP700-80GLN PSU for £27.59 @ Scan (today only) usually £68.94

If you're thinking of running 2 of these cards (CrossfireX) in the future, then get a quality-branded one with 4x 6/8pin* dedicated PCI-E connectors & at least 600W (*some PSUs come with 8pin PCI-E connectors that split into 6+2 pin).

Quality-branded ones are: Antec, Corsair, Enermax, Zalman, Tagan, Be Quiet, Etasis, Silverstone, Hiper, FSP, Xigmatek, Akasa, Seasonic, CoolerMaster, OCZ, BFG (& a few others I may have missed - ask if in doubt).

thanks for the info crossbow, i have a budget of up to £80 for a psu, while i will only run 1 4890 now i may get 1 more in the future.

I have a 4870 in a machine and recently bought a GTX275 for my main machine for £17x on overclockers.co.uk

Must admit, runs so hot, wish Igone for the ATI variant

Looks like a good deal

Are you considering a modular one by any chance? This would be ideal, & a great price too (if it returns): ]EXPIRED - 850W NorthQ Black Magic Flex Modular PSU only £58.64 (ex. delivery) on scan's today only!!

It has 2x 6pin + 2x 6/8pin PCI-E connectors.

Doesn't the 4870 you have run very hot too? I know mine did!

There are ways/tools to increase the fan revs to keep things cooler you know. ATI's own Overdrive for instance - & also RivaTuner, ATiTool & Gainward Expertool.

actually finding a PSU with 2 6pin connectors may not stictly be necessary, as the 4870 i got (which also needs 2x6pin power plugs) came with two 4->6pin adaptors in the box.

I'd also probably recommend going for at least a 500w PSU, depending on what other hardware, etc you were planning on putting together, 400w just seems a little low to me

ocuk in just down the road from me so i could pick it up for a pound less..
overclockers.co.uk/sho…-HT

that 850W NorthQ Black Magic Flex Modular PSU looks like it has the omphf i need, i dont really want to go less than 700w

Wow very tempting, but I am getting the 4870x2 when I get the money.

yes it does lok like one, doesn't it:w00t:

£6 more if you go with the xfx one and you get a hawx game with it.. It's been at that price for a while now, I wouldn't jump too soon.

i am not to fussed about what free game i get free with it,as will only be playing call of duty, and they dont offer that one. is there any difference in the cards performance though? between the likes of sapphire, powercolor and xfx.
what i mean is if i buy the 4890 from xfx will it be as good as the one from sapphire?

While benchmarks will show slight differences, I doubt you'd notice any while gaming.

cheers jukkie, killer hornet i loled

Getting very tempted to get a new card with current prices (4870s coming down as well) since currently running an aging x1950 pro on an HD 1920x1080 screen. But when are the next generation DX11 cards expected, surely these with cause DX10 cards to drop quite a bit more?

Probably, but that will be after the summer, with windows 7 release on november 11 or something.

yeah you're probably about right Hosain. After some looking about consensus for DX11 cards is Q4, and I guess it'll be some time after that before DX11 supported games come along, if the slow take up of DX10 is anything to go by. Dunno if I want to wait that long so may well go for it.

To be honest I was surprised how cool it was. I run it in a shuttle XPC that support a max of 7900 GTX but rant a 8800GTX in it first with a couple of careful re-routes.

From memory I have a Saphire factory overclocked 4870 with a non-stock fan which is very efficient.

Will look at ramping my fans up (Wall of noise....arghhhh)

That's quite a bit better than the stock fan that this one has.

You have to get the balance right. You'll be surprised what a 5-10% increase in fan revs can do for the temps, without raising the noise very much. Anyway that was my experience with my HIS 4870 with stock cooler.

whats sx75?

this card will be able to handle Crysis - probably with pretty much everything maxed out.
