Old tech now, but still a VERY capable card for the money.

Also free delivery from Hexus forums/AV Forums etc..

£51.85 without the TO offer which will expire around 1pm on the 12/11/10.

EDIT: It seems this has now been removed from the Today Only offer prematurely, so it's now up to £51.85, still a steal at that price though.

the 4870s were notoriously good in X-fire so you should have some fun there :).

Good luck with the project.

Hot!

great price for this, may get my bro this for xmas!!

Brilliant price! Will play Black Ops at high settings at 1080p if overclocked to 4890 speeds.

I'm a member of AV forums, how do I avoid the carriage charge?

Just noticed on this on scan aswell. ordered it straight away as at this price, its way too cheap to be missed! i had my eye on the gtx 460 768mb but that was £120, so for £50 i just had to have this! mine is coming tomorrow :)!
BTW! i ordered the second down on the list scan.co.uk/pro…dtv this version. it has a 5 year warranty vs 2 year and on newegg it has 153 reviews of 5* average :D! absolute bargain :)!

go onto avforums website. type in scan.co.uk (or similar) then follow the instructions. thats what i did a few months back. they link ur avforum and scan account nd give you free NEXT DAY delivery :D! fair play to scan!

Mental deal. Paid £100 6 months ago.

I paid £98 for mine in August '09 and very tempted to get another and Xfire it. But these get quite hot when gaming. Does anyone have any info on how they run Xfire'd?

Very good deal - ordered 2. AVforums says £75 minimum order on the page I found? In any case, it says you need 20 posts and despite being a member for over a year I don't have any posts!

You need a minimum of £23.50 spend at Hexus..

when i signed up to scan via avforums, there was no minimum post limit. for free delivery on scan i have to spend £20 ex VAT. u will be much happier with 2 of these anyway ;)!

Anyone know if this includes a crossfire bridge? I got a budget 4870 card about a year ago that didn't come with one, but would like the boost!

Don't suppose if any one could say how this would compare to a 512mb 8800GT?

My card has been under clocked to keep it stable so need a new one.

Very hot!!

....Do I or don't I...?

its the next generation on from that, its a fair bit quicker.

if you go to tomshardware there should still be some graphics card charts with them both on (i think they store the older benchmarks)

A.Fudge - It would depend a lot on the games you play and at what resolution you play, and on the rest of the system spec, but I'd hazard a guess at saying about 2x the speed of an 8800GT.

OOO... may be worth a try then. Thanks for the quick replies.

I tend to game at 1400 x 900, but also do model work and maps ( blender and source). Christmas is soon though =).

These also do sound over hdmi if you use an adaptor or dvi to hdmi cable,
Really need a 450w psu too,

Is there a point replacing my Sapphire HD 4850 with 512MB of RAM? Would I see any improvement?

woah this card is still a beast by todays standards tbh

is there any point in me replacing my 512mb ATI 4770 with this? to be honest i was looking at a 6870 but really on a tight budget, this seems really good if it is going to be an improvement over my current card
Edited by: "tee_tee" 11th Nov 2010

I have one of these, excellent card for the money, I paid a tonne a year ago and its still going strong.
Runs battlefield BC2 to the max which is a relatively gfx intensive game for the age...

I use a 750w supply to juice mine but i have an i5 and lots of bits plugged into mine so it gets a bit thirsty..

the early 4870s got hot, but mine idles around 40 and only gets to the 80's under heavy stress, with good cooling you'll barely notice it...

ordering 1 for xfire

Not a massive improvement but the more memory helps on bigger monitors Eg: 1920x1080

This 4870 should be comparable in performance to a 5770 for DX10 games. Runs hotter though and doesn't support Eyefinity (triple monitor thing). Total bargain if you don't mind not having DX11 (currently there are no games which have DX11 as a minimum requirement).

I wouldn't bother. You will see a slight improvement but it's not worth £50, unless you can sell the 4850 to some mug for £40 or something. If you wait a while and buy something for £100 you will get much more bang for your buck.

defo better the an 8800gt,i had one before i got my 4870 and would say twicw as fast in real world games,2 in crossfire are faster then a geforce 470 for about half the cost at this price

Just ordered 2 for some Crossfire/folding action.
Absolutely worse case, and it doesn't work.....I'll sell them on eBay and not lose any money.
Not seen/done Crossfire before so took a bit of a gamble........rude not to at this price.

Nice deal hot

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent value new motherboard that I could use to crossfire a pair of these with.

I've got an Intel E7600 processor.

Ta

just ordered one couldn't resist
btw does anyone know whether I can still keep my 8800gt for physx alongside this card?

i got the free delivery sorted. its still showing as £52 tho not the £49.34. have i got to use a code or something

The XFX don't. You have to buy one. Good luck. I bought two expecting a crossfire (particularly as the box said it was included!) but then had to buy one.
