It's a mobile broadband SIM not a phone SIM.

Last posted 4 weeks ago so reposting as may help those going on holiday in August.

Three allow you to use your mobile data allowance abroad in some countries (before anyone says it NOT Spain or Greece ) here are the counties it covers,
three.co.uk/Dis…ome

I'm in Italy so perfect for me. Using as personal hotspot as well.

Preloaded SIM from Argos now reduced so One week's internet (no big downloads/streaming) for £4.99/£6.99 isn't bad. Total 1gb or 30 days, whichever soonest.

Hope it helps at least one person.

Didn't help me 'cos I'm going to Malta:-(

Isnt Feel At Home just for the phone pay as you go service?
Worked a treat for me while away in the US and Ireland.....but I didnt think data SIMs were covered in the feel at home deal???

Edit - seems like applies to data sims too

SIM only plans you need to be with Three for 30 days before feel at home works.

Unfortunately this isn't correct. I'm in Italy right now using one.

I believe there's a difference between a preloaded SIM and a PAYG. I'm using the 1gb preloaded MOBILE BROADBAND (not mobile phone) SIM.

No extra cost for data.

* To benefit from Feel At Home, SIM only phone customers must have been with Three for more than 30 days.
If you're on Pay As You Go, all you need to do is convert your credit into an Add-on. You can then use the allowance in any Feel At Home destination.

Thats great.......you have copied the text on the page that I looked at but I interpreted as Feel at home as only Phone SIMs

Good stuff

Preloaded DATA SIM works in a feel at home location without any further purchases required (unless you use up your 1GB/30 day limit) I did this recently in France with a £4.99 1GB/30 SIM in my mifi and it worked. Don't expect to use iplayer or streaming services though, in central Paris I got superb signal strength but miserable data speeds most of the time. Great for emails/Facebook though.

PAYG SIMS need to have an 'add on' purchased to work (eg top up £15, convert this to the £15 /30day AYCE Data/300mins add on) and it'll work in Feel at Home location. Credit is still needed if making international calls (eg you're in France and call the Hotel)

SIM only (contract) can't use Feel at Home for the first 30 days of starting the contract.

Not 100% about pay monthly phone contracts though

So I need some help here. I'm off to the states Aug 27th, I need to get data and calls covered for the duration of my stay - Will this sim work, or do I need to be a 3 customer for 30 days before I can use the data?

I was going to buy one of these:

amazon.co.uk/Thr…sim

OR - Buy this deal, but that 30 day clause means I won't be able to use either if it's right?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

What you linked will work fine...once you get it you just need to buy the add on with the pre loaded credit - the addon then last for 30 days.

The 30 day limit doesnt not apply to PAYG SIMS.

So if the SIM in the link is pre-loaded do I still need to add another bolt on?

Original Poster

Best to contact them to check. Note it says you cannot tether from a mobile (I've been tethering from an iPad). Also, you don't say how long your trip is, they have clauses for longer trips.
Oh and finally the blurb says that your unlimited data on this SIM isn't unlimited, it'll be 25gb.

No - you just need the one bolt on and it it sounds like it is good to go..since the description says "pre loaded with the bolt-on"

Oftejn the SIMs are just preloaded with credit....that credit will last forever (until you use it). Feel at home only works with your included allowances ....with a PAYG SIM you dont have any included allowances until you buy the bolt on which lasts for 30 days....hence the need to buy the bolt on with your credit.

As a comparision I bought this one (also for a trip to the US):
amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

Mine was just credit and so I had to ensure I bought the bolt-on.

As Egyptiangirl states you definitely cant tether from a mobile AND these sims will not work in a portable MIFI either.....that's why I was so surprised at the OPs link.....if you want to use the internet on a tablet or mifi - you need to get the one OP has linked.....if you want to call and use data on your phone then the one you have linked is good.

The original deal posted here for PRE- LOADED data SIMS do NOT need an add to work in a Feel at Home country....you buy it, you use it UK or Abroad (enable roaming on the device) and it just works until your pre-loaded 1GB of data is used up or exceeds 30 days.

I assume the OP referring to this Data SIM being tetehered when used in a mifi I wonder? this is allowed because mifi devices are made only to tether and the 3 data SIM is meant for the mifi or dongle. Phone tethering isn't allowed with a data sim though.

Note that tethering is not allowed on PAYG voice with data SIMs, it may work but it may get detected quickly and blocked so don't be surprised and don't count on it. Officially no tethering is allowed on any SIM when used in a Feel at Home country.

Why not get the 10GB for £15 ?

really? where from, please don't tell me its 3G network

I'm using in Switzerland and as mentioned it's very slow. I have a 4G phone and can get 4G data on the phone (contract with EE) but the 4G mifi device will only work on 3G with 3. I also found you can download from BBC I player (I leave mine downloading overnight) but streaming won't work for me.

Just back from Norway and used my three contract phone for calls and internet at no extra cost. My friend who had a three pay as you go phone was able to use their phone.
You will get a message from three stating you are in a three roaming area and you are able to use your existing allowance at no extra cost.
I should point out that they state it does not include tethering.

Just been to America been using 3 pre loaded sim. All u need is go to 3 store ask for payg sim £15 come with 300min 3000text all you can eat data n you can use it straight away been very useful for us

or get it from amazon for £8.50 when it drops

Argos is abroad I've never been there, Any deals at Thomas Cook?

I'm going to Italy in September and need to check e-mail etc...will this work then if I buy it now?...just don't put in a mifi device until I need it?
Is this the best option or do you helpful lot have a better suggestion to possibly cover calls/texts as well as data.
I have a galaxy note 2 unlocked if that makes any difference?

Can anyone help with a method to get internet on a cruise. It is in the Mediterranean and will be stopping off at a lot of Italian ports so could use this then. I know the liners use satellite, is there any way to get reasonable internet while onboard?
Thanks

Just coming home from Med cruise. This is the best option. There is wifi on the ship but it costs a fortune. So I've used this SIM when in port which has been perfect.

Note if you stop off in Spain or Greece the deal doesn't work. Italy & France have been perfect

If you want the data it should be fine waiting as long as you don't put it in the mifi too early. It's 30 days/1gb from when you first use it.

Someone mentioned the preloaded SIM above for a mobile phone which may suit you but I think you need to activate a bundle or something!
I'm on vodafone for mobile so vodafone Trvaeller for £2 a day has covered all my phone use as you use your home bundle.

what about that lebaro one thats always being pushed outside in little stalls?

In Spain buy an Orange Mundo sim when you get here for €5. 1Gb data costs €9 and lasts for 30 days. You get a bunch of credit for calls and texts just by registering the card and topping up the €5 needed to be able to buy the €9 internet deal. However I am note sure whether you can use the credit for international calls back to the UK.

These Sims can be bought on ebay but you'll end up paying well over the odds for them.
