Shortbread? Scottish? Director's Selection?

This is not what any normal person would regards as shortbread. A true Scot would choke on it. And it would have to be a pretty ropey Director that selected it - perhaps David Cameron?

For goodness sake - almost all the butter's been replaced with vegetable (probably palm) oil. Compare that with Aldi ALL BUTTER shortbread - just 49p for 210gms. Rather lower price than this muck - which I see they've been trying to shift since the Summer! oO

Ingredients List by weight:

Wheat flour, Vegetable shortening (vegetable oil), Sugar, Chocolate chips (4.7%) (cocoa mass, sugar, soy lecithin(E322), natural flavour), Natural flavour, Butter, Full cream milk powder, Salt, Emulsifier (E481), Natural colour B Carotene (E160e)

needs to be all butter IMHO

Ye, not disagreeing with you, newbold and Groovii D. I make my own shortbread, there's nothing to it. But I've got these to drop off to work contacts, at offices for them to have with their morning cuppa, and at under 3 quid, they look the part. Just measured box, 44cmx32cm, so they look a bit special.

But as soon as they've seen that they're made with vegetable oil, don't they feel you've cheapskated them? I'm not sure many people would be taken in by a tin once they've read what's inside it! A dog turd in a tin is still a dog turd!

Dog turd?? Newbold, calm down I get it that you're purist about your shortbread, and agree that Aldi's shortbread ain't half bad- but for a present I can hardly sellotape half a dozen packs of Aldi shortbread together and say ' thanks, Merry Xmas!' Obvs, if it was you I definitely would as it is, I'll stick some red ribbon on this, drop it off with a bottle, and seeing as mostly they have smart price biscuits, they'll be happy
All depends what you want to buy for- and for me, it's just the job
walkers ftw
There are Shortbreads and there are ?????? anyone who really cares about the person they wish to give Shortbread to as a GIFT should buy either Deans Shortbread or M&S they both come in gift tins and are as good as you can get at a fair price.
Bought a packet of these at my local Co-oP will not make the same mistake again.

Newbold absolute twoddle mate, i've never got a present from anyone looked at the ingredients, and thought that vegetable content looks a bit high for shortbread !!!!

Dean's FTW
There's no mention of the butter content on the pack which's on offer. I've tasted it and have no inclination to taste it again. The best? Marks and Spencer fingers closely followed by Lidl with the butter content. Value for money wise Lidl's the best at 49p per pack of 12 or so fingers.

seems so
Newbold and Groovii D are correct and OP is wrong.

Comparing these biscuits to proper shortbread biscuits is like comparing these cheapo biscuits to smart price biscuits.

If you make your own shortbread and it's so easy why are you buying these to give to your associates when home made would make more of an impression? Is it not just equal butter (£3.40 kilo) flour (30p kilo) sugar (50p kilo) with a bit of icing sugar replacing flour? Would cost about £1.50 per kilo to make and they would be home made and taste better than most shop bought ones.

Sigh.. Please read my listing. They're a 1kg box, described on box as 'Scottish Shortbread', they're on sale at Poundstretcher for £2.99. They come in a big box and look impressive, but cost under 3 quid. Although I do bake at home, I would never give anything home baked to anyone I know solely through a business arena, as it would give totally the wrong impression. Hope that helps

Vegetable shortening is hydrogenated fat so avoid!
Bought the 500g box the other day from same shop (same make as well) it was truly awful stuff AVOID

Very similar ingredients to the Aldi (Belmont) product, which is about half the price:

Deans: Wheat Flour, Butter (31%), Sugar, Maize Starch, Salt

Aldi: Wheat Flour, Butter (32%), Sugar, Cornflower, Salt
