3 year warranty on the flyer, I presume.
Looks good to me. Could this sort of thing be used with a WD TV or Popcorn Hour for 1080p transfer to a HD plasma? If so might get this.
Decent size and 3 year warranty is great for this price.
Then again I'm no expert.

Its not ESATA tho, its definately worth paying £5 for that !

Ive got a ESATA external and its definately worth having

I wouldn't touch anything made by Medion with a 10ft barge pole! Plus it's not that cheap for a 1TB drive, even with eSATA, besides 1TB drives can be had from much better manufacturers for less if you don't want eSATA.

Would you really trust your data on something made by Medion? I wouldn't.

Can you please find a ESATA 1tb drive for cheaper please ?

It won't be a "Medion" hard drive inside.
More likely a Western Digital or Maxtor.
That said, I wouldn't trust keeping essential data on any external drive.

Not the point, external drives are usually used for backups. It could be £30 I still wouldn't trust my data to a Medion product, although I'd be interested to know what drive's inside.

I'd pay the extra for something half decent, just because it's the cheapest (I haven't checked so I'll assume you're right) does not mean it's a good deal.

True, but anything those muppets touch breaks sooner or later.

Nope, I could get you a steaming pile of **** for nothing, would you want that too? Price is not everything, the quality of the product has to come into play and Medion have a pretty poor reputation.

But in this case, the drive is what you are going to be keeping the data on, so the maker of that is the relevant product, not Medion!

I have a Medion Akoya PC. Best computer I've bought. No problems whatsoever.

Seriously considering buying this.

For anyone that's interested, PC Word are selling akasa eSATA PCI Backplate adapters for around 49p. I've seen them in a couple of their 'bargain' bins recently and picked one up from the Bedford branch. Didn't think it was worth a post in its own right, but it might be useful for someone thinking of getting one of these.

So Medion are s**t then? :w00t:

Ive not had any probs with Medion, but as its a hard drive its whats on the inside that counts,

I whole heartedly agree, just being a tit.

Heat and rep added.

It's an external drive for God's sake. Medion don't make the HDD inside and I expect they don't actually make the enclosure themselves! It just carries the Medion label. The majority of components in the PC world are just built by OEMs and re-branded under a more marketable name for resale.

Get in there, straight for the throat of the Medion haters.... hiss boooooo !!

Why not?

Anyway, Medion badge or not, the important thing is what drive is inside the case and it doesn't say and that's what makes this cold. I want names and tech specs.

C-O-L-D !

Err as a back-up, yeah. But as the only copy?? :whistling:

You should never have only one copy of any important files if you care at all about losing them, and that includes files on internal drives.

buy a esata caddy and 1tb hard drive for less and get a better make

From what I can see this will fit nicely into my Drive bay on my Medion PC so a definate for me..

If you think esata is fast then you should save your money and wait for USB3...:whistling:

It depends, do you deliver?

Any idea who the manifacturer of the drive is ?, at the risk of starting the mass Pro / Con Hitachi debate, if it's a Hitachi drive inside I won't bother :-)

And pray that your main drive doesn't fail in the meantime and you lose all your data. :w00t:
Intel aren't integrating USB3 at the chipset level until 2011 so get out those floppy discs and start backing up, you should be finished by then.

This is nonsense. It's a WD 1TB Green coupled with the same esata board everyone uses and the cooling is very good. The only thing that's Medion is the badge. Please megalomaniac, resist any urge to post next time.

Yup, drummed in to me after many years of computing always have 3 generations of back up.
"Grandmother, mother and daughter" as my computer studies lecturer used to say in the eighties. even if it meant using up 3 whole 5 1/4" diskettes :-D

My one has a WD10EACS-00D6B1.

P M S L at this post!

I think its a good deal, but hey I bought some kitchen lights from Aldi and dey go pop! 4 year guarantee gets a bit flakey when its manufactured and supported abroad by a company who dont care, but the same could be said for the mainstream boys!

I am voting hot as this is a good sized drive for the money. As soon as someone says the drive is carp, I will regret it but thats a lot of bang for your bucks, and eSATA too makes this an offer!

Thanks Deano

Honestly what rubbish gets posted here sometimes. It's all about brand snobbery. People wouldn't level the same against Dell and what rip off gear they often offer.

People are biased against Medion because of the outlets they sell through in the UK. They are massive in Europe. I'm typing this from my 3.5 year old Medion PC which has been excellent. There is some utter **** posted on here sometimes.
