For those not already aware, this is probably the best performing non-SSD HDD you can buy, outperforming WD Raptors in most benchmarks.
I have a couple, as do a few friends, they are really are great drives.

Credit to brookheather for pointing this price out on another F3 thread.

That's a McD's double cheeseburger right there! I'd be happy to wait a few weeks to get this HDD + the burger for £36.41 .

did i read that the F2's were more reliable? genuine question, not trying to be smart or anything

Should I buy this... Uhmm

Surely this works out more expensive than other deals of the same hard drive, what with the P&P.

For forum members its a steal though, not voting either way.

Great hard drives and quiet so good buy. Cheap as I've seen them too but how do the F4 series compare? These are great for the price though and for someone looking to get cheap but high quality hard drives these are the best bet.

Not that I'm aware.
F2's are the eco model, which are slower. F3's have an excellent reliabilty record.

You just have to post on AV Forums 20 times (relevant posts, no spam), then you get free delivery for however long they run the promotion for on orders for £20 + VAT (I did it years ago, and still haven't paid for delivery since).
I've never understood why people have a problem with this...

Problem is there are no F4 1TB HDD's :|. What there are of the F4's are supposed to be pretty good performers though.
Haven't much about reliability yet though.
EDIT: Just read up on the F4's. The only high performance F4 is a 320GB HDD. There is an F4EG 2TB HDD, but as the EG suggests, it's an EcoGreen model, so perfomance will not be as good.

I would avoid scan like the plauge, i bought this exact drive from scan awhile back and it dosen come with the manufacturers warranty, and my drive was so noisy so i tested it and it was faulty. so i got a rma from scan who got it collected and they tested it and said it was not faulty.
Also took over a month to refund me and they refunded me £22.31 and not the full £38.99 i paid, as the guy on the phone said it cost them £15 to get it collected and if its not faulty then they charge you for it to be collected , these drives are really good when bought from another supplier But when things go wrong scan are the worst company i have ever delt with, also its not just me search on forums and you will see the same issue again and again.
i have lost a lot of respect for scan.

@Mada06, sure I'd wait as I'm in no hurry as they save Every Little Helps!

Doh can't quote from the mobile site!

I've used Scan for years, never had a problem with them.

Have also ordered around 15 of these drives (from Scan and Ebuyer), and haven't had a problem with any of them (same goes for everyone else I know that I recommended the drive to).

This is your first post? Hmmm, I'd be inclined to think you're a troll. Get back under your bridge.

To be fair though, have you needed to return any of those drives to Scan jukkie?

I've been reluctant to buy hard drives from Scan because of their returns policy

So you call someone a troll because they share their return experience?
Also who buys 15 1tb drives?

When someone specifically creates an account on a forum to state an experience that is that unlikely, yes, I call them a troll. My experience, as well as most others, are the complete opposite to what he said.

As for why I'd buy that many of these particular drives, it's because I build PC's for people (as well as myself), and I like to use quality components (I also have a reputation to uphold :p).
I'd dread to think of what the total number of HDD's I've bought over the years is...

My previous experience of Scan's returns policy was amazing compared to anyone else I've used. I bought my current PC parts from them in one bulk, when I received the kit and put it together the PC wasn't booting as it should and no one I knew had a similar system I could use to test components with. So I called them within 3 days of receiving my order told them what was up, so they sent a courier to my house to pick up all the bits I had bought, they tested them all sent me a new PSU and memory and the other working bits back in under a week.

Really can't fault Scan from my previous dealings and now I only buy from them.

If you bothered to look at the product details you will see that it comes with a 3 year Samsung warranty. I've returned one faulty Samsung drive before after two years use and it was promptly replaced by Samsung through their RMA procedure.

£37.59

Price now seems to be up to £37.59!

Up to 40 now

shows as £37.59 for me. You are looking in the "Today Only" section?

be aware! the warranty information on the product page states it has samsung warranty. this is NOT the case. it only has the scan warranty. they have pretty poor reviews around the web for their warranty service aswell. cost me £5.24 to ship mine back to scan earlier this week :(!
BTW: price gone up now

I've had one of these for over a year. Brilliant drive. Very fast and reliable!

Bought a 2TB F4 to replace my 1TB F1, sadly my win7 hard drive performance didn't change it's still 5.9 so I might get one of these to boost my windows performance score (7.1 second lowest)
Thanks O.P. Heat & Rep

p.s. what do you think the score would be for this HDD?

Win7 will never give you more than 5.9 for a mechanical HDD, they fixed it that way regardless of how fast the drive is. You have to go SSD to go 6+.
There is a way of fiddling with the code to get it to score properly, I'm sure you can google it to find out.

There are conflicting stories here, I'm confused. The only thing holding me back from buying from Scan, is this whole warranty thing, as I am hoping to get a few of these for a RAID array, so wearranty is important to me. I will contact scan directly, and see what they say.

As far as I am aware, they are OEM/grey stock, which Samsung will not provide a warranty for, that is why Scan themselves offer a 3 yr warranty.
Regardless of where the warranty comes from, if the drives fails within the 3 years, it will be replaced (or possibly part refunded dependent on whether Samsung still produce the drives at that time).

Why didn't you just say that then? Anyways, it's not what they've said to me:

The warranty is direct with samsung and their contact information and the warranty period
information can be found below ;

Duration: 36 months
Type: Direct
DOA Period: 28 days
RTB Period: 1 months

Manufacturer Contact Details
Manufacturer: Samsung
Telephone: 0208 337 3901

I hope this information helps.

...having said that though, the product page doesn't say Warranty type = direct. So I guess
Direct = manfacturer warranty
Return to base = Scan warranty.

...or is it? scan.co.uk/pro…-ms

Still god damn confoosed!

I had a very similar experience to the earlier person Simonict. Bought the drive, believed from the description it had a 3 year Samsung warranty. The Samsung warranty checker website confirmed from the serial number it didn’t. Scan then said they covered the warranty. Except that as per their t and cs, if there's a fault, they can charge you for collecting or checking it, if they consider there’s not a fault. I then found out many other people were let down by Scan’s advertising and/or recommended you get one with the manufacturer warranty:
avforums.com/for…tml
hotukdeals.com/dea…758
forums.hexus.net/sca…tml
forums.hexus.net/sca…tml
I asked for a replacement with the Samsung warranty (all their F3 drives are now without Samsung’s warranty I was told) or failing that a refund because I wanted the manufacturer warranty, as described. Samsung don’t charge for warranty collections and checks. Due to the Sales of Goods Act/non conformity with the description, the buyer here has the right to a refund and for the seller to collect the goods at their cost. The only reply I got was I could cancel the purchase but I’d have to pay for sending it back. Got no reply whatsoever to any points raised!
I only got a promise of a refund after trading standards contacted them about misleading advertising though evidently they have still not corrected the website advert.
Anyway this is the standard price currently for what is a very popular drive but if you prefer like many to have a no quibble warranty, you have to see if anyone else sells it with the full Samsung warranty. Personally I would, like the original poster, never deal with Scan again as their customer service in my case was as bad as it could have been.
