We have this conversation every time a recertified deal is posted. Any hard drive can fail. A brand new one could fail after a week; a recertified one could last the rest of your life. All you'll get from a brand new drive is longer warranty, and all you get from a warranty is your money back or a replacement drive - no guarantee of data recovery.

If you have important data, back it up. Have it stored on at least two hard drives and don't keep them together. Store it in the cloud if you can.

I'd rather have two recertified drives and my data backed up than one brand new drive and assume it won't fail.

Balls, paid £29.99 for the same last week.
Mine for £23.99 (using Plex code) from last week, arrived today.
Pretty sweet. I'm using it with a free backup prog called Personal Backup 5. 4Gb moved over in about 5 mins or less.

Very dangerous to put all prized/invaluable data on one device. I have multiple copies on all my PCs and external drives (plus GoogleDrive to boot). For 23 quid this is a perfect way to protect yourself from losing all data in one go.

BTW thanks op. Just bought 2. They are a bargain!

Depends what you use it for. I want one for PS4 games, if the data is lost I can download it again. Would be a pain but nothing that cannot be replaced.
Nice, i may just pick one of these up and use it as another external HDD for the XBX, give me 3tb in storage total to swap between.

Heat.

Hmm not sure if you can move save data from ps4 to these only the games. I tried to do it this yesterday and it didn't work 😏
Thanks OP!

Thanks very much! Code worked so ordered.
Thanks for the code. Just ordered one to try on my Panasonic TV for instant pause/rewind and recording. They only recommend two drives, so this is an experiment as it ain't one of those two; right manufacturer though and should fit neatly out of the way if it works.

Are these the type that don't have a SATA connection on the hard drive that's inside, rather the connection on the drive's PCB is USB?

Edit: Look's like it might be one of those Native USB type drives inside: bychaw.blogspot.co.uk/201…tml

Second hand or re-certified drives will have a higher probability of failing imho, mechanical drives obviously have moving parts so wear and tear is an issue. Plus the fact WD only place a 6 month warranty on these drives hardly feels me with confidence of the reliability of the re-certification!
Not many things I won't buy second hand, but mechanical hard drives are definitley one of them.
cheers perfect timing

just starting to think the russkies might fry my data so might as well add another backup
Is this one of those I can take the hard disk out and put in my games console?

Any work as long as usb and formatted in correct format.
Thanks
I've bought 2 rectified drives from WD and they are both 'wonky'. One doesn't stop turning long after its switched off (brake faulty imo) and the other one is extremely noisy. WD insists there are no faults and the behavior is normal. DONT USE FOR ANYTHING IMPORTANT, would be my advice.
