2 for 1 on lots of attractions around the country with rail ticket @daysoutguide.co.uk

Couldn’t find this already posted.

I recently took advantage of the Family and Friends railcard offer. The F&F site has 2 for 1 offers but mainly in London. A much better site for rail related offers is daysoutguide.co.uk. The qualification for 2 for 1 is a rail ticket to the attraction and the voucher you print out.

For example on Sunday I took my daughter to Madame Tussauds Blackpool. Train tickets from Preston were £6.90 and the 2 for 1 saved us £15.95 admission. In effect they paid us £9 to travel there by train! Family of four in front of us in the queue paid over £60 to get in.

The offers are all around the country. You just need a national rail ticket to qualify (i.e. One with what I call the old British Rail arrows logo on it). Even if you plan to travel by car, it pays to get a train ticket to the attraction even if you don’t use it, from somewhere nearby to qualify for the reduction. You can probably collect the tickets from your local station before you set off. (I didn’t try this as I was travelling from Preston, but it did give me the option to choose where to collect the tickets from).

Note you don’t need an F&F railcard, just a train ticket for the day of the visit, but obviously it makes the saving even greater.

The offers include theme parks such as Alton Towers, Chessington, Drayton Manor etc

Attractions such as Edinburgh Dungeon, Legoland, Portsmouth Dockyard, Sealife Centres, London Zoo, various football stadium tours, horse racecourses etc etc etc…

It’s well worth a look before you set off to any attraction, or for ideas.

BTW the filter to search for attractions by county doesn’t work very well. It didn’t find Madame Tussauds Blackpool despite finding other Blackpool attractions. Much better to click on ‘things to do’ and choose a category of attraction, e.g. sports or boat trips, wildlife and zoos, etc.

Hope this helps.

Good info, just to add, some of the venues are a distance from a train station e.g. Alton Towers.

If you know someone going to AT, better to ask them to purchase buy back tickets from the box office. £15 for anytime this season.

Some National Trust places do a discount if you turn up without a car

Was looking at this earlier today and trying to get my head around it with the kids screaming in the background!

Thanks for posting and making it clearer! Heat

Do you need only 1 rail ticket even if 4 are you are going to Drayton Manor Park for example?

Terms state that you need a rail ticket for each person. Have to admit though that at Madame Tussauds they weren't that interested in looking at the train tickets - but that could be down to the individual etc.

Specific terms for Drayton Manor say one ticket per person to Birmingham or the attraction destination.

Suggest you print the terms off and check the details - when the kids have quietened down ;-) . You can print off the vouchers at no cost and with no commitment.

Do you just hand your train ticket at the door to get 2 for 1?

we used this offer when it was in York last year, we just needed to show one ticket (there were 2 of us)

Show your ticket and hand over the printed voucher you get from the web site.
