£1.79 for a drink. Really? It is a rip off at full price. If they can offer a select few a "deal", it means they are overcharging others, who out of principle may not buy due to discrimination. If I know one person can get this deal and I cannot, I would feel ripped off. My money is as good as others. What next - dual pricing a Tesco, one for men and one for women?

Exactly the problem. They dont communicate these offers to the stores so you suffer the embarrassment of holding up a q of 10 cars in the drive through while the 1* staff member tries to figure out where the offer is on the till

It's not discrimination, but sure.

Become a student if you're that annoyed.

I'm confused, a rip off compare to which other place that does hot drinks on the go? Aren't Costa/Starbuck upwards of £2.50?

Additionally, there is already discrimination in pricing between male and female products. Link.

Here are 2 of the same products. However 1 is marketed at woman and the other at men. The female version costs 50% more...

Many local shops sell coffee for less than £1. Even some with free refills.

No there is no discrimination in these products. They are not identical. A different colour means a different product. Women are free to buy the "male" colour and would not be stopped.

Non-students cannot buy the over-priced drink at the same price. This is pure discrimination.

One group in which the majority work and pay taxes have to pay higher prices and the other student group (who often do not work), who claim to be poor (as they waste money on overpriced drinks instead of making their own) get discounts!

If students are in debt it is their own fault when they buy coffee, alcohol and fast food. Poor people cannot afford to do this! Students live beyond their means.

Sadly for you non-students are not a protected class (unlike gender cited previously, which is) therefore your only option is to lodge your frustration with the head office of McDonald's, and the vast majority of other retailers, and hope that they will come to your way of thinking.

It's taken you this long to get to grips with the idea of student discount? Why don't we just abandon all concessions?

Students will typically go on to have higher paid jobs and will end up contributing to the economy far more than you ever could.

Get off your high horse. Next you will be telling everyone how Children and O.A.P should also pay the same as adults.

Or, become a student. It's not hard or expensive, there are guides on HUKD

Then you get access to all the deals you're so angsty about being denied (and probably wouldn't even use anyway) whilst still being a fully functional member of society, which traditional Students apparently are not

Such ignorance. You make assumptions on my wealth. I bet you I pay more tax than you even earn.
Of course a child on an plane or train should pay the same if they occupy the same seat as anyone else. Why shouldn't they? Actually some do. A 16 year old pays full fee to travel on a train to school in many areas.

I do favour payment by mass. Heavy people pay more! Since I have a low mass, I would pay less.
Weigh passengers at the same time as luggage!

What ever students earn is not relevant. The discount is not provided by HMRC, it is McDonald's.

N.B. EasyJet, Ryan Air et al charge the same price for a adult and child occupying a seat. This is sensible.
I drank some of this but it caused my bowels to lag horribly and I felt my performance really dropped too.

you are very ignorant with a huge chip on your shoulder; arguing about students getting preferential discounts because they are generally speaking, less affluent then a working adult.

GET A GRIP MAN.

oh, it also probably costs mcdonald's 30p to make the drink. Boycott them if you don't like their business practices.

30p? Try 2p.

I do enjoy that he calls others out for talking about personal wealth, then claims he pays more tax than we earn. A true classic.

I do not eat in McDonald's. I would leave such establishments for you.

I do not have a chip on my shoulder. I am entitled to my opinion without your jealous insults. Oh dear, we have someone who cannot accept this and believes others should not have a different view. I firmly believe all students should pay the full cost of their education. It astounds me such "poor" people waste money on McDonald's and can afford to go to bars and pubs if they are so hard up. The unemployed or poor families cannot. It would be better to give such benefits to the unemployed.

Before you ask, I believe all student doctors sign a contract that they pay back the full £500k for their training. If they work for the NHS or in the UK for 35 years, it is written off. If they leave the UK before this period, they pay back the money before they leave on a pro-rata basis. If they do not wish to sign, they pay upfront for the costs on a yearly basis. They have nothing to lose!
This way UK plc does not waste money training doctors for them to leave the UK.
