Well, we could, or it could be Rotterdam, or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome.

Just anywhere but home (not alone)

Anybody having issues, try this link as a starting point:

poferries.com/en/…ses

Good deal, just a shame starting point isnt further south,500 mile round trip by car bumps the price up some what.

I think they need a new web manager! Their 'Motorists Mini Cruise' still includes a bus transfer!

Does that mean you have to leave the car on the boat??? :(_;)

Bout time i went to amsterdam might be time to book.

Going with my friend on the DFDS mini cruise from Newscastle to Amsterdam on Thursday. £85 for two people. You get up to 5 hours in the city. Return train from Liverpool worked out around £38 each. £3.80 each way for transfer bus from Newcastle Central to the port at South Shields and another £7 for an upgrade to an outside cabin with a port hole. Works out around £90 each for two nights away in a foreign country which isn't too bad when compared to staying in a Travelodge or similar. Crates of Heineken on board cost €20 for 24x330ml so you can even save on the booze. Bought a Two Together railcard so we'll an extra 1/3 if we decide to go anywhere else in the next 12 months.

Great film, also with Brendan Gleeson - its called In Bruges.

minicruise is a misnomer. it's just their bog standard ferry. so it's just a booze trip. the casino is a table with a woman dealing cards in the bar and the cinema is a cupboard down by the engine. it's amazing how good you can make it sound.

'&' should be 'or' in the title!

You might want to make sure you get on the right bus...North Shields surely?

Seems like A lot of hassle for five hours in the dam

yup, North Shields Ferry Port

Obviously you've never been! It's a great laugh; cinema, cabaret, bar, restaurants, on-suite cabins....
We go every year, sometimes just for the day, but mostly stay the nite in Dam ;-)

I've been on the one to Denmark and was amazed to see people doing the 'minicruise'. It was bad enough as a car ferry. Really boring with nothing to do if you cannot drink because you are driving. I lived in Europe and travelled back and forth many times a year on Dover, Folkestone, Harwich, Southampton, France, Belgium, Denmark, Spain etc etc.

The only good one was the one which stopped running which had a smorgasbord (Viking/ Sally ?). It's not a minicruise, its a return trip on a passenger ferry.

But this deal doesn't include your car. Leave your car at hull, have a couple of relaxing nights on the ferry, decent dinner both nights and a day in bruges. Even after booking dinner, I've just paid £155 for me and the missus just before christmas. You cant really go wrong.
That said, I'm not sure I would do the same for Amsterdam, 5 hours is not even close to being enough. We always fly to Amsterdam and have 3 nights in De Pijp :-)

we will have to agree to disagree.

you need your car when you arrive back in the UK so one journey is alcohol free. If you don't take your car then you are also restricted on how much you can carry. also as you say nowhere near enough time at the other end. I guess I'm not a day tripper type of person.... these 'minicruise' are simply an extended daytrip on a ferry with nothing to do. as for booking one with a porthole... wow, it's not the Caribbean or even the med, total waste of money.

How long in your destination do you get on the P&O mini cruises? I know Amsterdam is only 5 hours but I've already been there eight times over the years so just going for the craic really. Port hole was only £7. £1.75 each per crossing. Might see some lovely oil rigs!
