I know it has been posted before over 2 weeks ago but I thought it would be good to remind you all about this as it's starting this week! Original poster marko4ever24, so credit to him.

On Monday 2 February 2009 The Sun newspaper in partnership with train companies will launch The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer. This will be the first national ticket promotion to be offered since 2002.

The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer provides readers the opportunity to buy one Adult rail ticket and take another person (adult or child) with them for free.

2FOR1 rail offer tickets can only be purchased online from thesun.co.uk/2FO…fer. 2FOR1 rail offer tickets must NOT be sold at stations or through any other retail outlet.

To obtain the 2FOR1 rail offer Sun readers need to collect any four of six individual tokens printed in The Sun between Monday 2 February and Saturday 7 February.

Each day a three character pin code will be printed on the token and customers must enter four different pin codes to obtain the 2FOR1 discount on the website.

The 2FOR1 rail offer is ONLY available on Adult tickets. Each 2FOR1 ticket will show a 50% discount on the Adult fare.

Where one Adult + one Child are travelling together, the 2FOR1 rail offer will be available. In this case the Adult ticket will be issued at 50% discount and the Child ticket will be issued at the normal Child rate.

A minimum of two and a maximum of eight people can travel together with one set of four 2FOR1 rail tokens. One set of four tokens can only be used once for a Single or Return journey. All customers that make up the group must travel together on the same train service/s.

2FOR1 rail offer tickets will be clearly identified with 2FOR1 printed on the ticket.

All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-EXCHANGEABLE. Once the journey is booked, NO changes can be made, no matter what type of ticket is held. Note: Seat reservations are compulsory for Advance fares only.

All other rail ticket restrictions and terms and conditions will apply.

Booking Period
2FOR1 rail offer tickets can be booked between 5 February and 5 March 2009 inclusive. All tickets must be booked at least seven days in advance of travel.

Travel Period
All outward travel must be completed between 12 February and 5 April 2009 inclusive. Tickets with a return validity of one month may be valid for travel until 4 May 2009.

Ticket Types
The 2FOR1 rail offer applies to a range of ticket types including Advance, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak. Anytime fares are included for journeys where no Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak fares exist. Day Travelcards are excluded from the 2FOR1 rail offer. All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are subject to availability.

Generally the 2FOR1 rail offer will apply to Standard tickets, although the 2FOR1 rail offer may also be available for First Class travel on some journeys (see Appendix A).

Each train company has identified what tickets should be available for the 2FOR1 rail offer. A full list of tickets being offered for the promotion is provided in Appendix A.

Tickets lost in post, replacement tickets & ToD failures
If a customer does not receive their 2FOR1 rail offer tickets by post, then they must contact the Trainline.com tel: 0871 244 2395 to get their tickets reissued.

Upgrades
2FOR1 rail offer tickets are non-exchangeable, so cannot be upgraded to a new ticket. First Class upgrades, e.g. Weekend First, are not available to holders of 2FOR1 rail offer tickets.

im confused - will the pins be different per newspaper?

if not can't someone just buy it and post it here?

explaination please

How expensive has it become to travel on the train nowadays. Was cheaper for my aunt to fly from London to Liverpool Airport last month than get the train.... cheaper by over £100 easily.

Anyway good deal, anything to lower the cost of traveling.

Stevey p7 you should have shoped around son because you can get that journy for around £20

Looks like they've thought of that trick already - You have to take the 4 differently numbered tokens with you and make them available for inspection along with your tickets.

The terms say that you'll have to pay the full single fare if you can't provide proof of the tokens.....

hmm, you always get riped off if you get a direct train ticket rather than getting single faires to get you to your destination. So may be cheaper to get single fares than a BOGOF fair?

Here's to hoping all the codes are the same.

It would help if you told us where your original thread was.
I just worked out my daily journey stop to stop and its about a tenner more expensive to do it that way.

edit: found it - hotukdeals.com/ite…253 - I thought you meant your thread discussed the stop to stop thing.

On the "National Express East Coast" the 2for1 offer is great at all as two singles are significantly cheaper than a return , so it will work out to be no savings at all or you may be a bit extra especially if you have a 16-25 youth railcard and/or Network rail card...etc. So this is true for London to York and to Scarborough.

I always check fares on www.thetrainline.com - there is a "best fare finder" section that is fantastic.

Also if you have children it is well worth getting ]this family railcard for £18. Had a weekend trip from Swansea to London recently for under £50 - that's 2 adults & 2 kids

www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com is better. It also has the best fare finder, there is no booking fee and free postage.

Ironic that this starts on the day virtually every train has been cancelled in my area!

Hey foonmace. On the dates she required to travel we shopped round everywhere possible, each of the trainlines and managed to find a flight for £50 return

Was coming up with daft figures for the trains.

This could be a cracking find for me Kyle, need to get from York to Glasgow on the 28th feb coming back on the 1st march. Coming in at about £54 at the mo, this deal could save me & ma pals quite a few quid:thumbsup::thumbsup:

the sun or its alternative name the lily allen fanzine

This offer is also valid on Wrexham and Shropshire trains running between Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Telford and London Marylebone.

The full (and correct) version of the T&Cs are available at The Sun website www.thesun.co.uk

from the terms and conditions on the site

"19. 2 for 1 offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer. No further discounts, including Railcard discounts, are available on 2FOR1 offer tickets."

This offer is just for off-peak returns. Since on many journeys advance tickets are available which are often less than half the full price, this deal is only good value in very limited cases. Since you have to book seven days in advance you would be eligible for an advance fare on many routes, so it is really only worthwhile where you are travelling on an off-peak but highly booked train where advance is not available (coming out of London on a Sunday to south Wales for example). Added to the fact that railcards (family etc) are not vaild on this deal, I would estimate less than 25% of customers would _really_ be saving money with this deal.

does anyone have mondays code ?

Monday's code is SUN

Remember you need the token to validate the ticket.

Not having much luck finding a ticket that's useful, all I'm getting are advanced tickets when I need an Off Peak return.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

Just found out the hard way that you can't use this offer to travel to either Heathrow, Stansted or Manchester airports. Drat.
