Does anyone have any idea if the USB sockets are always on?

Just thinking of the power used and wasted if the voltage is constantly being transformed from 230v down to 5v
good question
Thanks for posting
I believe so. I'm actually in the process of switching mine back due to his concern. I had one that would hum constantly at a high pitch.

Typically between 1-5w per day (when not in use), similarly to a phone charger, a microwave, an answering machine, etc

I bought these a couple of months ago and they're good for the price. The usb output it split, ie 3.1 output if one is being used and 1.5 each if both are in use so slower charging.

Can you just swap it straight with the old socket or is there more to it

Yes you can although they are sometimes a little deeper than standard sockets.

In theory yes if you have a 25mm back box!

Thanks! Taking a look at the "Instruction manual", which is really the spec sheet, it says Standby Power consumption is <75mW. It also says that it goes into Standby mode when device is fully charged. Magic! @mv1985 - FYI

You mean at maximum speed? No, you need a QuickCharge adapter for that. QuickCharge varies its voltage according to the target device, this is fixed at 5 volts. It will fully charge the phone, but will take longer to do so.
Perfect had a £10 code come through with no minimum spend . 2 for £5 !
Cheers
