Can you take an eye test when opticians have 'free eye test' offers …Can you take an eye test when opticians have 'free eye test' offers running and simply request your prescription after the test is complete? I presume you can though it may p1$$ the optician off. I'm having an eye test on Saturday and do not want to be coerced into spendings a lot on their own glasses

Yes of course you can - as soon as you get your prescription you can order from wherever you want unless there is a clause in the free test stating you must buy your glasses from them

Been getting glasses from here for about 3 years. Never had any problems, apart from losing them or the grandkids breaking them :-)

I used that deal too in the past and I agree with you. Now I'm looking for new set of glasses and I found this deal 2 days back but this is worse as it is more costly than £35 once you added the lenses (unless you pick the free lens version of course). I wish the put back the £35 deal soon
Just tried getting this deal and website is down with a 503 error. Maybe HUKD has brought the server down! Hope it's back up and running and offer is still on tomorrow...

Do the £89 get reduced to 19 or do they get discounted £30?

No they take £30 off so would be £59
Doesn't seem to be working for distance - you need at least £10 lenses (no free option), so the cheapest is £39 for two pairs.

When you click Distance and it gives you lens options, Bronze is £10 - you have to select one, and that seems to be the cheapest to select....

EDIT: Seen how to bypass it now....well they keep that nicely hidden don't they?!

Get a PD, pupillary distance measurement too..
They usually only give it to you if you ask them for it. You'll need them to make new glasses

I got mine done through work and asked for my prescription to be provided as I needed to provide it to HR/Occupational Health just to confirm I'd actually attended, Opticians were fine and are usually involved in a scheme.

If you're going to do this, at least do it at a chain like Specsavers who can afford to do it. It's not really fair on a local opticians to waste their time and money.
Used glasses direct twice in the past, great experiences both times.

I'd recommend using some of the money you save on the frames to add silver lens package on your glasses - anti glare lenses are insanely good

Just have a few minutes looking at their frames to be polite, then say hmmmmmm...... do you mind if I look around a few other places also, as I'm really indecisive and would like a wider choice maybe? I may end up coming back here anyway... And then don't forget to request the prescription, you know... Just in case you buy elsewhere.
do they do varifocals, are they in the offer? thanks

They do varifocals but they have a surcharge on top depending what you go for. Still second set free and this offer takes £30 off each pair

Basically after the test, they'll show you around their collection of glasses.
Just say, "Im going to come back during the week with my partner, so they can help me pick"

Simple and Polite way of saying, NO THANKS

I had a 'free' test recently at Specsavers, they told me it's only a free test providing you purchase glasses after, I said I'll come back a few days later & they said I'd have to pay & could then knock it off the price once I purchase glasses.
I think you mean £49 and below, not above.
Anyone else having the issue where you cannot select the lens and category for the second pair? Page doesnt load anything meaning you cant checkout.
I tried using them last November, just for a pair of reading glasses, and had no luck with them. After I placed my order I had a confirmation saying that I would hear in (I think) 7-10 days on a delivery date. After 2 weeks I'd heard nothing and emailed customer service. Got a standard email saying how busy they were, blah, blah... Around a week later, still nothing. Tried customer service again - got the same email. Posted on their FB page and they emailed almost straight away apologising saying they were waiting to hear from me on a question they had. I'd never had that email (not even in my junk folder).

I responded anyway (they wanted a picture of me holding a credit card to my face - not a good look!) and after another week...nothing, apart from the same standard "we're very busy..." email. Asked for my money back, which they did a few days later.

Might have been a one off experience, but there are a few people saying the same on Trust Pilot, though in fairness their overall score of 9.3/10 is pretty good.
Voted hot that's OP. Also very sneaky of the website about the bronze silver and gold lenses. It looks like you have to pick one. I got a refund as I picked the silver ones cos I thought I had to. So got a partial refund and they will just stick the big standard lenses in lol

I have ordered from them a few times and they are great. Sounds like a one off there..
I get my glasses from here all the time. Honestly for the price the quality is amazing. I've had my latest pair about a year and only have one scratch. When I used spec savers they got covered in scratches within a few months.
Shame they have stopped stocking the Coco Loco frames. They were the only plastic frames with a nose bridge wide enough for my massive conk.
If I refer a friend do I get the £15 Amazon voucher if they order using this deal
Does not work for all prescriptions
