Posting this as I'm here now and it's great, can't think of a better way to spend 500 quid to be honest. Works out £36 per person per night.

Resort is called Labranda Club Makadi. It's 4 star, and gets 4.5 out of 5 on tripadvisor. Book through loveholidays.com

From November through to April this holiday costs over £8k. I'm sure that would drop but gives an idea on how good this deal is.

It's about 37 degrees, pool is great (and warm), food is delicious and varied, and the coral reef right on the beech is amazing. We've seen turtles, rays, and tons of other fish. There is a pretty good gym here, table tennis, pool, and the animation team are alway putting on yoga classes and darts tournaments etc.

Flight is from Gatwick, but it seems to be quite cheap from other airports too, and not much more going in to June.

Some people may feel that Egypt isn't safe... and that's fine but I disagree. A lot less has happened here recently than other places that brits still visit regularly.

Also, excursions are very cheap. We've been to the pyramids and Egyptian museum for £60 each. Snorkelling boat trip for £20 each, and private dolphin trip (in the wild) for £55 each.

If you've never experienced a coral reef you probably should soon. This turtle is critically endangered, and we're killing reefs pretty quickly through global warming...

Wow, this thread is so full of cowards. Enjoy staying inside in your sheltered life in the UK... There have been more terrorist incidents in Europe the last few years than Egypt, and most of it is super safe. You're way more likely to be in a car accident in the UK than you are to be in an attack in Egypt haha.

On the plus side, seeing as all the scared people are staying put in the UK, you can go and have a relatively tourist free holiday right now! Half the sites were empty half the day when I went a couple of years ago. Much better.
2 weeks not worth my life sorry. Its cheap for a reason.
I've been to Egypt and survived, I must be very lucky as I didn't even feel threatened at any point. In contrast I've heard people being killed in London, very dangerous country is London, stick to Tenerife everyone!

Nobody is losing out on a holiday by not going to Egypt, they are instead going somewhere abroad safer. There are many many alternatives to Egypt and many just as cheap.

Probably....but in Egypt you are pretty much despised by everyone other than those out to make money from you.
Not worth getting blown up or peppered with bullets whilst sunbathing to save a few quid
Quick take a flight and pump out loads of green house gases to go see the coral reef that is getting destroyed by climate change.

A sublime example of cognitive dissonance and how I know the human race is doomed.

Also enjoy the disaffected terrorists raiding from the Sinai region. Might not happen today, might not happen tomorrow but as a statistician I'd say you are improving your odds of a grisly end.

Still on the plus side one less ignorant human for planet earth to support.
Been to Egypt loads the ignorance on here is epic.. more terrorism attacks in Europe that in Egypt..

For the record Mikadi Bay is near Hurgada Airport which is a military airport full of armed guards where ever you walk you will feel very safe.

You're welcome to your view mate but I think that's quite a rude over the top way of putting it.

Also, not sure about a sublime example of cognitive dissonance. I've gone on holiday and said that reefs are disappearing. Should I never go on holiday, stop driving my car, wash my clothes in a river? I'm not saying I'm a perfect eco warrior, just pointing it out.

And I assume if you throwing in "as a statistician" that you can share the stats that you've based that opinion on? Compared to Paris or London for example?

People like you are what’s wrong with the planet. You will be safer at this resort than any major UK city particularly London. Do you live in a cupboard? How do you take holidays, ride your horse down to the nearest Butlins?

Lol, ye ok
Why so many negative comments.
i just back from Egypt in one piece. I think London is more unsafe how many people get murdered here.
It’s all the negative press that makes people think it’s unsafe.Been to turkey, I think it’s one of the safest place to visit. Absolutely loved it and definitely will go back.
Try it for yourself lovely people.

Because lots of armed guards are a good thing... the place is a war zone, go to Bournemouth!!!

Exactly - do a bit of research and you can have a nice holiday for the same amount of money (or less) at a (much) safer location. I've been to Egypt twice before and I won't be going there again anytime soon...

Car accidents don't specifically target tourists.

I'm not saying I'm perfect. Even David Attenborough uses planes mate

As does Chris Packham and Emma Thompson.

Apparently 'Flight shame' only applies to the working class.
I do agree that the media love exaggerating the situation and fear mongering however, I flew via Turkey twice, first time was a day after a big suicide bomb that killed many and second time was around the coup.
But could be safe and friendly for all I know...

Weird I didn't see any and just done the trip myself. What are all of these isis fighters doing in the desert? You seem to be posting a lot of comments in here. Out of interest, and I'm not looking for an argument, are you put off going to places like Paris, Manchester, Christchurch, London etc. From what I can see the last attack in Hurghada was July 2017 when two people were killed.
Its not the terrorism that put me off, its the incredibly high incidence of severe food poisoning in Egypt. Everyone I know who has been been there has been ill and some ill for months. I would love to go but that puts me off completely.
Great price. I went to Hurghada just a few weeks ago, 1 week and we paid £650 each.

As others have said, Makadi is a good 30 mins further out and more isolated, so reliant on a taxi if you want to visit Hurghada for the marina, restaurants or nightlife. I definitely would feel a bit trapped being tied to the hotel complex for so long. But I'm sure you can get very cheap taxis between places in the Makadi resort or for a daytrip to Hurghada. Hotel will also surely have options for excursions (diving/snorkelling, Mahmya island, Luxor, Cairo).

Hurghada Airport is very secure with Armed troops posted there. Hotels have barriers and security guards. Armed police outposts dotted about. Staff extremely friendly. I'm sure Makadi resort is much the same, so I'd ignore the "full of terrorists" people. I also went to Hughada in April 2016 just a few months after the Russian plane exploded flying out of Sharm El Sheikh - perfectly fine.
Been there, can highly recommend it. Mosquitoes are at a minimum as the breeze from the Red Sea blows them inland.
ive spent 4-5 weeks in hurghada for the past 4 xmas and new years and will be flying out next week for 2 weeks with my young family. nothing wrong with the place, no where is safe these days. I find the people who complain are ppl who normally go to Europe an expect full English breakfasts and chips with each meal.
A place where you're not allowed to be openly gay? Pass.

And some never fully recover, in essence carrying on their lives with some form of diminished digestive system.

So, aside from the issues if you're gay, Jewish, Christian, or female and the reasonable chance of food poisoning issues and maybe a terrorist attack or a blown up plane, this is a really good deal.
