Grabbit (shemes.com/ind…oad) set up:
On first start of the program a wizard will appear (uninstall and reinstall to make this appear again if youve installed before)
1) On the first page enter this as the server: news.hitnews.eu
and tick server requires a password
2) On the next page enter
your username and password (exactly how it is given in the email (copy and paste it without any blank spaces)
3) Click next and let it download the grouplist
4) Finally select yes when it asks about automatic par and rar
5) Right click on the "Default Server" in the left pane and select the "Server properties" option
6) Drag the "Maximum Allowed Connections" to 8 and click OK

"alt.binaries.movies.divx" is always a good place to start. Downloads will go to \My Documents\GrabIt Downloads\

Only 30 day retention, but if your forever pulling down from newsservers it's a great price.

well ive had 3 day max retension with telewest last 5 years, and thats more than enough

excellent now all i need is somethign to download

Thanks a lot.

i find that with the speeds you get nowdays most new stuff gets downloaded straight away ( he says as hes watching live fre or die hard hehe)and you can always get reposts for other stuff so retention not to much an issue now days.

will have to see if can resign up using a diferent email address in 2 weeks :whistling:

Is their anyway to get it to download quicker per file?
It seems like the only way to download at the top speed is have 10 or so files to be going, as 1 file only downloads at 100kb/s.

Thanks mate, great find!

what you downloading with? cant remeber if diferent programs download the files diferent. i use alt binz and have 5/6 threads going and it downloads 1 file over the 5/6 threads, maxing out my line doing it.

GrabIt.

Nice guide.. but once you have done all that.. how do you get downloading something?

Nzb's will not work either, doesn't seem to accept my username/password, grrrrrr

Edit: changed password and it seems to work! My first attempt with newsgroups!

Sweet find, and its maxing out my 6.4Mb Connection.

Best places to search:
binsearch.info/
merlins-portal.net/Vbu…tml (requires signup, well worth it and easy search for NZB)

Search for what ever you want, download NZB (kinda like torrent), load it up in Grabit, away you go.

2 weeks,lol

i am gettin access denied to your node

help!

What does the error "502 access denied to your node" mean?
It means that your bandwidth has been used or your username and password is incorrect.

Try typing in user and pass again, make sure firewall isnt blockign any connections.

47GB takes 17h to download,lol sweeett

This is actually very very awesome, I'm starting to learn the tricks and it's working well
Thanks to the OP

would someone please explain for us less technically knowledgeable what exactly this programme will do ?

thanks

Excellent find. Thanks!

USENET has been around for donkey’s years and was originally setup as a kind of BBS. Thanks to the binary groups it's more widely used these days to share copyrighted material and is more user friendly thanks to NZB sites like those linked from higher up in the thread. Simplified client apps also aid the newbie’s steal their warez more conveniently.

It's nice to see that HUKD actively promotes the acquisition of illegal content (shown by the censoring of on-topic posts). Free is of course the hottest deal you could get.

So allowing members to post deals is actively promoting the acquisition of illegal content? This is perfectly legal, what the members choose to do with it is another matter.

All off-topic and rude posts were removed, including those who quoted other removed posts.

Technically, indexing sites themselves, (such as the NZB sites quoted higher up in the thread) are illegal but not the USENET access providers.
Strange how such posts as were not censored, or were you too busy leeching to notice those?

indexing sites just index the content (Maybe like search engines?), its not as if they provide or host the content so I dont see how you can say they ARE illegal, maybe its a grey area.

I dont think the indexing sites are illegal. They dont provide the copyright material.

I do find it strange that the USENET access providers are not restricted in what they can offer, but at the end of the day its not all copyrighted material thats there to be downloaded :whistling:

Thanks!

Just yesterday I was looking for a good free trial

"The MPAA move appears to be an attempt to extend the Grokster judgement to sites that merely point to places where the files are. In that case the Supreme Court said any company's technology that has 'the object of promoting its use to infringe copyright...is liable for the resulting acts of infringement by third parties'. UseGroups and search engines have always claimed the same freedom as ISPs and the mail service in that they have no idea what content is using its services. However, the MPAA is claiming that the sites do know what their technology is being used for and is therefore liable."

Usenet has shifted from being a relatively obscure player to a significant content resource. The key reason for Usenet's advance into mainstream file-sharing is the growing ease in obtaining files from this medium.

Several years ago, Usenet was reserved for a more advanced crowd of Internet citizens. It took work to shuffle through individual Newsgroups (ie, alt.binaries.dvd, alt.binaries.dvdr, etc.) to find material. It was necessary to download hundreds, if not thousands of headers (similar to an email header.)

The more widely used it becomes, the more of a target it will be for the authorities.

Exactly. This Dr No character is somewhat unsavoury. He's got this idea in his head, probably based on very little information, and he's trying to subject us all to some kind of moral, prejudical crusade.

Trolls like this can never be stopped, ban him. Ban his IP.

thank YOU... unlimited WIKIDNES!!

By going with that train of thought, you've just incriminated yourself by pointing to places where you can get the files. Thanks!

If the MPAA/RIAA were to target newsgroups, the end user/downloaders would not need to worry as the authorities always target the people who upload/share the illegal files not those who download the illegal files.
