First things first this is an over Christmas break (you're flying back on Christmas Day) so not for everyone. But given the price it looks like a real bargain.

Depart Manchester on 11th December, returning on 25th December (arriving back on 26th)
Hotel is the CLUBHOTEL RIU BACHATA rated 4* by First Choice and Tripadvisor (reasonable reviews too)
All inclusive board basis (catered Christmas dinner anyone?)
Weather should be a winter beating 30 degrees C

Price is listed as £594 pp on the linked page, however after all discounts it comes out at £1132 for 2 (£566 pp)

Heat 2 weeks in the lake district would cost more than this without food or drink

Amazing deal!! I have just returned and the weather, location and hotel are all great but the all inclusive alcoholic drinks are awful. Stock up on the duty free! Also two weeks of buffet food may become a bit boring and it is not a country where you can leave the hotel and eat in different restaurants easily. But they are the only negatives, we had a fab time and would definitely go back. Also, all the drinks on the flight there and back were free so that saves some money too! 🥂

Fatabelly, I Don't agree. If you read the comments in detail they are on the whole positive. And when you consider the price, 2 weeks of sunshine, sea and food to boot - it's hard to beat.

I have been here, I went a few years ago I stayed next door rio Maranga. Food for sure was horrible and birds flying in and out of food hall.

The good thing at the time you can also use the two other hotels facilities for dinner lifesaver.

After travelling the world I guess this will not be a place for me to return, has your restricted to to complex due to being unsafe to walk outside complex.

The Russians that were there were walking to the fishing Village down the road.

Tantastic deal Pete. If it wasn't for work and a few other commitments, we'd definitely be booking this deal. Need something like this to pop up for mid January.

Been here three times, twice to Merengue nest door and once to this one.

Great price but be aware that its gone downhill since one of the hotels ( cheaper one ) closed down on site so nows theres only two.
Food OK, booze all local with no option to go for premium ones, full and i mean FULL of drunken Canadians and Yanks who sit at the pool swim up bar all day without moving ( even for the loo! ) , by 6pm its loud, brash, sweary and not really kid suitable.....hotels OK, the cruise terminal next door is cool to look at and watch the ships come in and out, there are shops to the bay rear next door too ( hotel shop is idiotically expensive )... all in for for this price its probably worth a look - if you want to know anything about this place drop me a line/reply...

£580 on the Latedeals website

Great price but don't sound to good at all, there's a reason why its cheap, if going to DR you really need to get a top hotel. This goes for most of Caribbean as well tho.
Food wise in DR unfortunately is not that good but this is mainly down to poor produce better off going to Mexico if your a foody!!

Its curious all the negative comments posted in this thread?.
If you look at the most recent reviews in late October on the First Choice website they are all very positive with 4/5 stars awarded. Maybe its changed a lot since you guys went there?

Having previously stayed there then it is a basic hotel with basic food. There was an outbreak of food poisoning when we were there so they had staff with alcohol gel spraying everyone's hands before you went for meals. We never got one of the speciality restaurants during our stay as they were continually booked up. The spirits were dreadful and the buffet restaurant isn't air conditioned so you'll be sweating in the evening. It's cheap though if you fancy two weeks away and aren't too fussy.

I went there last year and even the manager said it is supposed to be 5 star but its not ,good price though but defo wouldnt go back ,such a shame really

The Riu hotels are Puerto Plata are always on a deal here and the same negative comments are posted. It's probably because it's disgusting cesspit with frequent outbreaks of illness effecting most of the visitors.

4/5 tells you nothing of this place. The hotel could have 10 weeks of outbreaks every year but still maintain 4/5 rating because for 40 weeks, visitors can drink silly amounts of alcohol (watered down) and eat as much food as they want (well, the food that the birds haven't eaten) for such a low price.

If you had visited any of the 3 Riu hotels during an outbreak you'd fully understand.

Did you mean the Riu Merengue Hotel!Cheers

Puerto Plata though, meh.
Bavaro all the way

I thought a holiday in the DR, guaranteed you got the two bob bits......

great place came back a month ago from hotel that is next to it -Riu Merengue you can use both on all inclusive basis excluding dinner.

Sounds disgusting to me. Especially with drunken North Americans urinating and defecating in the pool, next to the bar. Yeuch. Nope, I'll be going to Porty.
