£38.77 each factoring free delivery! Cheap, but will they get even cheaper?

Good deal!:3

Cheap if its what you want. You can get a 2 tb drive for less.

If you're RAID-ing this would be better though

You would have to be insane to RAID 0 them though in my opinion.

Planning on getting a Synology DS410J nas and can't decided whether to go for 4 of these or splash out on 4x2TB. This is a cracking price and would bring the cost down quite a bit. If I were to RAID5 4 of these drives how much would I be left with as total storage?

With Raid 5 you would use one of the disks for the parity ( this enables you to recreate a disk if one fails ) so you should be left with 3 disks for data storage so that would give you either 6TB or 3TB usable storage depending on the drive size ( in a 4 bay enclosure ).

You wouldn't..... You would use Raid 1 and mirror them

good deal. bought this to populate my new qnap nas which should be arriving in the next couple of days.

- agree, but I would imagine pretty much everybody would RAID 1...

I'd get 3 and go RAID 5

wow, i thought they couldn't get any cheaper guess i was wrong this is a cracking deal for a pair of excellent HDD's

Thanks for that. To be honest I reckon 3TB should be more than enough for my needs.

Are these decent drives? Whats the difference between an F1 and an F3?

Bit unsure as had a Samsung before and only lasted a year.

When are we gonna see USB3 NAS drives soon?

Raid 5 is slow unless you have hardware support.

What’s the warranty on theses drives?

Maybe in your opinion. I quite like having 252MB/sec sustained read/write thanks.

PS. Voted scorching hot. These are the speed demons of the moment and the cheapest yet. Bought 2 of them 3 weeks ago for £82.22 and thought that was amazing!

In a low end NAS yes it would be, but high end NAS's are pretty much designed for RAID 5/6.

If you are putting these in a home NAS, use RAID 1 for data redundancy. Do NOT use RAID 0!!!

As long as you have the data backed up, or a backup solution in place (or it's data that you just don't care about) and can benefit from the extra speed, RAID0 is fully justified.

Yeah nice until you lose your data. Hopefully you keep decent backups.
