Google home is far better unless you're all in with Amazon. That "OK …Google home is far better unless you're all in with Amazon. That "OK Google" command though (shock). Why can't they have given it a sexier name?

There's 'Hey Google' obviously, which isn't much better, but my Google Home Minis will accept 'Oi Google'... which is much more suitable.

I spoke to someone in Currys yesterday as i didnt know which would be best and his preference was the google mini because it uses Google and echo uses Bing for its search engine, you cant access YouTube on the echo as they have had a falling out. He said theres nothing in it sound quality wise and pointed out that the echo display had a speaker in the display maybe giving the impression sound was better. Also mentioned something about free Spotify with the Google mini.
Hope this helps

I have the Google Mini and the sound is pretty good. I can also connect to via Bluetooth to my speaker for even better quality.
As for the music, Google is currently offering 6 months free subscription on their new You Tube Music service on Google home as long as you never had it before.

I'm going to just select home delivery although other stores let you pay first then collect in store... Mine doesn't!
This or the Echo Dot? Not sure I need either really but this place gets me spending!!!
Excellent price.

I've had both Echo Dots and Google Home smart devices for a year now. Google's ability to answer most questions seems to be streets ahead of Alexa. The Google Home app has also improved dramatically over the last year and I like the voice control over Chromecast / searching Youtube etc. Both devices are good though. The new echo dot is a noticeable improvement over last year's model in terms of design and sound quality.

Got a new Panasonic smart TV arriving today which has voice control and supports Alexa and Google. Will be interesting to see how well that works

It's not that Google and Amazon had a falling out. They just have no interest in cross promotion hence why you can't buy a Google Home or Chromecast on Amazon. Basically playing silly buggers with each other but you can kind of understand, it's a bit of a conflict...
I much prefer Google to Amazon, but the lack of aux out swung me to the Echo Dot instead of these. It's a shame as all my other devices are Google, but being able to link all my existing speakers for multi-room audio is such an advantage and saves a fortune on buying a dedicated multi-room audio system.

This is a great deal for those who don't need that. Voted hot.
I do love my Google Home devices but I am a bit of a Google b*tch and very loyal. I use it for most things and most recently Hive which it works very well for. Telling it to turn my heating on and lights on/off is very handy. I have a spare Google home mini which I won at a Google "rock paper scissors" tournament icebreaker. I was going to sell it but they don't seem to be worth very much these days, so going to use it in the nursery of my forthcoming baby when I want to play music (with the mic off). I used to have an amazon Echo which my OH had bought me for Christmas before Home came out, but when Google launched their product I sold it and bought the Home instead. Being able to use Google search over Bing and integrate it with my Android phone was very important to me.
Thanks OP, was waiting for a good deal as needed 2!
Anyone that says there is no difference in sound quality between home mini and dot 3 is talking rubbish. I have both and love both but for music the echo dot 3 is leaps ahead, Google is far better for searches but echo is better for sound and also has better microphones, it can hear better far away or when playing music.

I agree! The Dot 3 has great sound for such a small device, which can nicely fill a small room, and leaps ahead of my old Dot 2. However I just sold my 3 echo devices to try out the Google way. The sound isn't as good on Google Home Mini, which I knew, but the search and integration with my Android phone still make it appealing and I've got a Home Hub on the way.

Don't think you can go wrong with either device, especially at these silly bargain prices, but they both have slight strength and weaknesses over each other so people can choose the one that is right for them.
