I have received an email from Torguard who are running a New Year promotion, similar to the Black Friday deal here. To get the router, select Anonymous VPN "buy now" select "Biennially". and use code ROUTER50

The apps supplied by Torguard will encrypt connections from laptops, tablets and phones (iTunes/Play) directly to Torguard servers. The supplied router is great if you need to connect devices like a firestick or smart TV.

While I use Torguard and can commend their service, I don't have the router so cannot comment beyond what I've been told in the last post. I have tried to answer the questions which came up most often;

Why use a VPN?

A VPN will hide your internet traffic, i.e viewing, browsing and downloads from your ISP and others who could eavesdrop and to prevent your informaton being stolen when using hotspots, for example in a coffee shop. It also hides your real IP address and your location so you can access otherwise restricted content and prices.

What is a streaming IP?

A streaming IP is one that has been assigned to one account for the purpose of streaming videos, it is usually used on sites like Netflix US to stream extra content. Torguard has said they guarantee their streaming IP’s will always work to stream content in the country where the IP is located. If you want to stream Netflix, buy a USA Streaming IP ≈ £15 annually approx (after code.)

Will there be any tax/duty to pay on the router?
The router in worth less than £30 and is marked as a gift.

What speeds can I expect?
Torguard VPN speeds are generally comparable with my ISP speeds.

What about the router?
It's a 300Mbps GL.iNet GL-MT300N Mini Travel Router, with OpenWrt Pre-installed with OpenVPN Client.

Real life Speeds are reported to be between 10-38mb, depending on the device distance from the router.

How to use the router?
The easiest way to connect for the best speeds is using an ethernet cable to your hub (i.e. a Sky, Virgin BT router.) When the router is connected it creates a second Wifi hotspot which you may connect any devise you where you want the data encrypted or want connected to your location spoofed, such as your Smart TV, Amazon Firestick, PC etc.

Does this slow down your speed?
I signed up at Xmas VPN seems to work well and my dedicated ip address's works to get us Netflix. Speed wise I lost around 10-15% i.e run at 30-35mb with vpn off and then 24-28mb with it on
The site doesn't even load. Are these guys reliable? I'm sitting on the fence to buy a vpn and tempted to go with NordVPN but confused so many vpn providers out there. Can anyone recommend ?
I lose connection to Netflix when I use my PIA VPN. Looked into Smart DNS but still deciding. Maybe Netflix hasn't blocked TG yet
Im waiting on BT infinity being installed, there are conflicting reports on whether vpn's work with the hub, anyone know if this will ?
^ apart from that I'm happy with PIA

You cannot add a vpn to the hardware of most isp including BT. This will work on single devices and I'm sure you can use the supplied router and have it setup to work with your new BT hub

Netflix block IP ranges, which mean that if they receive a lot of connections from one IP, they will try to block all the IP's in that range in order to block the server. Torguard have said that they guarantee their dedicated steaming IP's will work and will replace an IP which gets blocked.
Has anyone tried hotstar app with indian ip using Torguard
Thanks, tempted now. Done PIA for the last few years but due to renew in March
Can I use this on my Vodafone fiber? Thanks

So this just links on after the hub and then to any devices basically ?

I'm no expert, but if this is plugged in after your modem doesn't your isp still track things to your modem?

You would do this if you were in the UK and wanted to watch Netflix USA content. There's a lot of stuff on Netflix USA that isn't accessible on the UK site unfortunately.
I've been trying to gain access to Neftlix USA content but a lot of the VPNs don't work or I don't really understand them.
I several GLi AR300M routers which I bought for VPN purposes. The AR300M is a bit more powerful than the one you get with this deal.

They’re very good bits of kit, but you won’t get more than 8-9 Mbps download speed from these with the VPN activated. Perfectly good for streaming HD but not 4K. It’s because the CPU isn’t powerful enough to process the data any quicker than that.

It looks bit like this:
DEVICE > TORGUARD APP/ROUTER (NON-ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC)
TORGUARD APP/ROUTER > ISP ROUTER HUB (ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC)
ISP ROUTER HUB > TORGUARD SERVER (ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC)
TORGUARD SERVER > WEBSITE SERVER (NON-ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC)

As traffic goes through the app or router, it becomes encyrypted and is not decyrypted until it reached the Torguard server, so your ISP (and others) cannot see the contents of any data after it passes through the app/router.

You can test nord vpn for 3 days free of charge. I just done my tests and it came out very well.
I use this independent site to compare VPN providers:
thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn…rt/

Gives a very detailed insight into a number of important categories per provider. I recently swapped to BolehVPN, as there were no red flags in any categories for them. TorGuard are US-based and have a number of red flags.
Speeds don't look great. How do you find them?
I’m confused as to how VPN’s work to prevent the ISP seeing that you’re downloading movies for example.

Surely regardless of what receives the data, it’s still being sent by the ISP and therefore they still know what is being received?

I probably misunderstand how VPN works but it would be great if somebody could answer and help me understand the value.

I imagine that's why the price of routers has hardened
Signed up to this before Christmas with $10 pre-configured router.

Seeing a drastic reduction in connection speeds.
80 - I00mb on Virgin without VPN
5 or 6mb with VPN connected.

Tried several different location set-ups in US and Europe but no improvement in speed through VPN.

I have. Works with my android phone, surface Pro and I also have a Mi Box which I sideloaded the Hotstar app onto which works really well on my TV (occasionally buffering on live sports but that's to be expected).

Yes, if you buy the biennial plan, they give you the router. You have to send a message to tg support.

Do you know by any chance, what kind of router ie brand, is it flashed, will work with Virgin broadband? etc

Hi the code TGLifetime50 is reacurring, not sure if it loses the free router qualification.
I have been using torguard for years and have never had a problem, decent speeds with barely any dropof from standard. Also decent amount of server locations including London and Hampshire which work to access torrent sites.

It's this router with OpenWrt Pre-installed with OpenVPN Client configured to use Torguard's servers. It connects to your Virgin Hub via an ethernet cable or wifi;
amazon.co.uk/GL-…-21
I've used the supplied router along with their faster brothers and they're easy to use and also handy when taking them out to use in public hotspots such asin hotels etc.

Bought the recommended router 6 weeks sgo. Still not arrived. This thread has reminded me to post a support ticket.

Instead of using the router you can download software that creates the vpn from your individual pc for example.
