Used to get £1 pocket money per week and used it to buy 10 comics every week. Whizzer & Chips, Nutty, Beezer, Topper, Buster, Beano, Jackpot, Dandy etc.

Visited every newsagent in town until I got the full set.

Beano is "Britains favourite comic" because it's probably the only one left.

Think they sent me a T Shirt and a £1 postal order.

Yes, I remember getting a postal order too. Pretty sure it was a quid too.

Press display is now pressreader. Looks like it's a subscription service charging £28 a month after a 7 day trial...can you keep recycling the initial 7 day free trial/or is there some other way to make it 'free'.

My local library (west lothian) don't appear to be part of the press reader scheme - they aren't available in the drop down log on menu (though I can see other local libraries such as Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian) and their website doesn't return any search results for 'pressreader'.

Edit... You can kind of read viz on pressreader even if it's feinted out because I haven't paid, but 2 or 3 minutes of squinting to read the words has given me a headache.

Agreed!

But mine didn't last long; overused maybe
I remember buying the Beano back in the 80’s. We couldn’t afford toilet roll for our outside loo so I had to read the comic then use it to wipe. I’ve still got a scarred ring from it. Happy days.
£2.75 each!!! No wonder nobody buys it.
Now I'm going to really show my age. I remember buying the Beano and the Dandy at 4d each. Yep that's 4d in pre decimal and equates to less than 2p.
I remember paying around 18p for the Beano in the late 80's

That brings back memories. I forgot I had the fan club stuff
Perfect example of the pressures on Print Media. It costs a fortune and it's made up of about 20 pages, most of which aren't cartoons but ads and big space filling puzzles.

I forgot about the fan club. I had that!
Is this a longstanding offer? I'd like to get as a birthday gift but the birthday in question is not for a few months!
I used to love the Beano as a kid and my 9 year old nephew now gets it delivered every week and also loves it.

I feel like I need to go for this deal just to support its ongoing publication.
Kids these days enjoy drugs and knife crime...how times have changed.
My dad was in the Beano when I was around 8, picture of him dressed up as Dennis the Menace but I was gutted as they got my name wrong! Said was “Alan Dempsey’s Dad”.
How old are you lot? Probably my age to be fair. I used to get the Dandy as my brother got the Beano. I think it was 8 pence. It's not hard to see that when I was a kid it had a readership of 2 million and now nobody reads it, it's obvious why.

Yawn, not really. My 6 and 9yr old son and daughter absolutely love the Beano (and Dandy annual) and they're gonna be made up when this starts falling through the letterbox for the next few weeks.

£17 with the code, heat added. Thanks OP.

My son loves reading a physical copy of the Beano. He looks out for the postman every Saturday! Plus they spend enough time on screens so reading an actual magazine gets the thumbs up from me!

thank you just purchased worked for me
£2.75??? Used to pay 26/28p for the Beano in the early 90s, don't think inflation has gone up that much has it?
I love this thread. So many good memories. My brother used to let me read Whizzer and Chips after he’d finish and sometimes I’d get a couple of sucks of his gobstopper. I’d take big slurping ones to get as much as I could, used to make him really angry for being too greedy. Great then but thinking about it now 🤮
True but if you can’t afford that the free option is there.

I'll beat that - I remember paying 3d. I bet they're no longer allowed to have Dennis menacing Walter while he's mincing along picking flowers!

It's more supply and demand, comic book sales at an all time low causing the price to rise to warrant production, one site says its only 41,000 per week being sold for the Beano this year.

I saw this go from 30-50p! How is it so expensive now?!

Good work finding this code - I thought £20 was great value - £17 is amazing. Too bad I paid £20

A Beano Annual in 1980 was £1.25 and the weekly comic was around 10p so roughly 12th of the price.

A Beano Annual is now £7.99 and the comic is £2.75, roughly a third of the price!
