Silverburn one had on been reopened about a year so I found it weird that it was closing so soon.
Not sure if it still applies. In Scotland a shop is fined if it closes before its lease expires. Some weird bylaw or something like that.
Could well have been these stores have traded till the lease ran out. Probably worked out cheaper in the late by run.

And yet they are beating online most months for physical media
Oh, cool, might get things at normal prices in HMV for once.

But seriously I'm not surprised at all by this. Absolutely everything in store can usually be had for way cheaper elsewhere; not even meaning just online at Amazon but other high street stores are almost always cheaper.
Anyone know if the Pop figures are reduced as well?
At last a proper closing down sale, unlike toys r us/eless.

If they weren't so damn expensive then I may use them but same as game, compete of be gone.
Anyone been? Would have taken a trip out today were it not for the awful weather.

Same with Game, much cheaper to buy elsewhere.
cool so its only 30% over priced now
I was confused the first time round that HMV mostly went bust, closed all of its shops, then came back. It’s just so expensive compared to almost every other option!

Closure of these stores was announced when HMV last went into administration and was rescued, so has been planned for some time. Likely timed to end of leases for the units
I agree with @mikewadkins35. HMV tend to be quite competitive these days - I've gone back to getting stuff from them, as frequently they are as competitive as the main online shops.
closing again? lol its not been that long since they took that unit space back over.

The Silverburn store closed for about two years then reopened just over a year ago.
Not a fan of HMV, over priced and poor returns policy, I’m surpised they’ve lasted this long to be honest.

Their blu ray deals are pretty good.
The 5 for £30 and 2 for £25 are the best deals

The unit is quite big and probably costs a fortune to lease

I’ve always been able to return faulty items or unwanted goods. What problems have you had with them ?

Yeah
Their Blu Ray 5 for £30 deals are pretty good. A better range than amazon, los of Arrow for a start!
Plus they occasionally do 2 for £25 on Criterions which is pretty good, and you get the occasional £5 steelbook.

Ive actually been buying quite a bit more from them lately
This is my local store. Does anyone think they will increase it as the week goes on? And has anyone found anything actually at 50% off? Also there was a box set I wanted which is now nowhere to be seen. Do you think I'd be wrong in asking them to order another in for me before they close just so I can get the discount off it?

And just on the side it baffles me. I remember when they originally opened there I think......I could be wrong but I think it was quoted in a newspaper or online article that the rent for that unit was £35,000 per month. Zavvi was there. Then Zavvi closed. Then it was HMV. Then they went into administration, then Toys R Us opened, about 18 months ago they closed and HMV opened again and now they are closing again. How on Earth could ANY store bring in enough money to cover £35,000 a month then wages, then stock? Maybe they have changed it or reduced it. I know New Look tends to be busy, I know Debenhams is busy so I guess it can be done but how are these other stores covering rent? I'm in the Silverburn near enough every day and you wouldn't believe how many expensive stores are empty or maybe have 1 or 2 people them. They survive all year round but HMV can't sell enough CDs and LPs and DVDs and Blu Rays and Books? Really?! Come on. Just an absolute shame. I'm very very sad about this.

I don’t think they would tbh and the store is closing on Saturday so they may not be enough time.

I think the store was too big I think they could’ve done with half the size of the store, there is quite a lot of empty space in the store

I do think discounts will get bigger as the week goes on but they ran out of ‘it’ on blu ray so its just luck if they have any good deal left by the end of the week
I had every intention of hiding what I wanted which was the new Twin Peaks Blu Ray. I've got my eye on a few other things. They do still seem to be stocking new releases so they must be getting stock in but as you said, with this being the final week that might be it.

It is a very big store but it seems to work well, they do have plenty of stock but I guess it could be squeezed into half the size.

20% off is a good deal but if it ends up being more I will need to bite on a few things. I'm gonna head over tomorrow and see what is left. I don't expect Twin Peaks to be there but if there's anything else I like the look of I will try and find a place to hide it lol.
I was there last week - if I remember correctly the sign said the 20% off doesn't apply to games, consoles and gift cards - everything else is though

I got this when I bought supergirl season 2. I seen like 12 staff put stock out so must be trying to get everything out on the shop floor

Overall I think the problem is.
The rise of streaming
No stock check on the website so don’t know if an items in stock or not

Products being in the wrong place
I was confused at first because they say up to 50% but I only seen 20% and at first they had yellow stickers on a lot of things so it was confusing because you didn't know if they had already made the discount and the real price was the yellow sticker or if you would actually get a FURTHER discount than what is on the item.

When they do their big sale they have great deals, especially with the records. I don't know why they can't be that price all year round because if they were I'd certainly buy more all year round. I know a lot of people stream now and it's easier and doesn't cost as much but I wish more people would buy stuff physically. There's a couple of books I want in the 2 for £5 offer too and a graphic novel so I've got my eye on other things too but I wish prices were always low and more people went in and bought stuff so they could stick around. IT selling out tells me clearly there is a market out there. Maybe just not enough to pay the rent and the staff wages?

I do think some one else had the same idea as me. I was there last week and one of the staff couldn't find something for someone and he said the computer says there is 1 in stock but it must be misplaced and there's no way of telling where it could be. I might actually try and ask them tomorrow if they have any in the back but I really wanted to hide it till nearer closing time so that I might get a bigger discount on it.

That voucher would be ideal for me. Do you have to spend a certain amount to get one?

I’m not sure. They where inside the bag. So I assume Just ask for a bag with whatever you buy.

TBH I didn’t think the big sale was that good at Xmas a few blu rays on offer but that was it

The braehead store is always busy but that’s quite a small store.

I think it’s cause Silverburn is aimed at a upmarket people

So you have a pure hmv card ?
I think it’s quite good earning points to redeem.
I keep meaning to get one but never got one. I should get one.

I was in there on Xmas eve and it was packed and I got a few records on Boxing Day for £15 and £16 which was good because one was £25 before the price drop and I've had other good deals like that with records. I've also gotten good deals on CDs. The records I have got in their sales have been good because the ones I wanted I rarely saw them again so I think they must have just got limited stock in and that's been it whereas with the blu rays and dvds and even the main stream music CDs it tends to be the same stuff getting discounted all the time..

I've noticed with chart CDs now they drop below £10 fairly quickly to £6.99. I think DVD should go the same way and blu ray to around £9.99. I know if that was the case with the movies I'd definitely try movies and TV shows I'd never seen before just to try them out. I feel like the more stuff I buy I'm buying stuff I've either seen before or I know I'm gonna really like it.

I like the Braehead store a lot but because I really like buying records they don't tend to have as much of a sale in there but then again the stuff I buy is really only when there's a sale on so every 3 months or so. I have gotten stuff from there that I couldn't get anywhere else.

Silverburn is definitely aimed at people with money. I can only imagine some of those shops are being funded by other stores doing really well because some of them are never busy and are empty a lot of the times unless they do make a lot of high value sales that keeps everything going. I suppose I'm wrong for looking at it that way. I just couldn't wrap my head round some of these other stores which I never see busy or even anyone being served paying their rent and wages and yet an HMV can't stay open. And if that newspaper article years ago was right in saying it was £35,000 a month in rent then good luck to any company opening there. That is some amount of money to have to make every month and then pay for stock and pay wages. It blows me away. Apart from Debenhams and Marks and Spencer there, I don't know any other company that could make that kind of money per month. I think Primark could do it but I don't know what the deal is there. I heard It was Debenhams or Marks and Spencer that had some kind of deal where if they opened there Primark would not be allowed to. They put the kibosh on that. I wish I had lots of money like that lol. It must be nice going there and buying expensive clothes and jewellery and eating out all the time. I had the same kind of relationship with various indie record shops too. Some really nice ones with really nice people but sometimes.....I have to say I felt like I belonged in HMV lol. Same thing with Woolworths. You kinda feel like this is where I'm meant to buy my music and movies.
Yeah. I just find it crazy that hmv has failed twice now in the same unit.

Do you think another entertainment shop will replace it ?

I prefer going into a shop for my blu rays but sometimes amazon prime is just too good haha
It is strange but it gives me hope they may return and who knows maybe it was always meant to be this way. Maybe they were only ever meant to be there for a set amount of time. Maybe it did make a lot of money but just not enough for the business people to want to keep it open.

I would love another entertainment shop to open up there. I don't think in that same unit but surely in one of the smaller ones a shop selling music and movies and books would do well. What about a Waterstones with their own movie and music section? Another shop I like is A1 Toys. A unit that size would be ideal and another shop like that would be ideal with movies and music also being sold. It just seems like all the money is in jewellery and clothes now.

You can't beat going into a shop but there are some great deals online that you just can't afford not to miss. Sometimes the prices are just too good lol.

I think a Waterstones would be good with a cafe inside it but there is already one at the avenue in Newton mearns so don’t know if it would be any good at Silverburn.
Yeah it might not be as busy but I think there is a place for a similar shop. I'll head over to HMV later and see if I see anything I like. See if anymore Twin Peaks have been put out.

Hopefully will have more out

Let me know if they’ve increased the discount to 30% off haha
I'm just back and it's still 20% off. Still no Twin Peaks Season 3 blu ray lol. They've cleared a lot more movies from near the back and moved them down the front. Other than that I think it's still the same stuff. I didn't see any IT blu rays so I don't know if they aren't getting anything else in. I seen Mother! on blu ray in Tesco but would have definitely remembered if HMV had it so I think whatever is there now is it.

The other stuff I had my eye on is still there lol. I'm hoping when they put it up to 30% they are still there lol.
