When mine were younger use to be under the age of 5 yrs they travelled free with an adult in Scotland
East coast trains used to be kids under 5 travelled for free but they didnt get a seat. A 3hr train journey to London with a 3yr old on me knee in a window seat was not a pleasant experience!
Thank you for replying.
Got this last time it was on offer. 1 return trip to London for 2 & we got the money back plus saved more so the rest of the year is just a bonus if we go again
Can the senior 's railcard be used even for discounted advance purchase tickets
eg London to Newcastle discounted advanced fare GBP15 , do I still get the ticket discounted down to GBP7.50?
thanks
Do you mean staycation?

The definitive answer from National Rail is;

"Children under five years of age
Up to two children under five years of age may accompany each fare-paying passenger free of charge, unless the Train Company you want to use specifies otherwise in their notices and other publications. However, children under five years of age who are travelling free may only occupy a seat which is not required by a fare-paying passenger."

Yes the discount comes off advance tickets but it's a third not a half discount so your £15.00 ticket would be discounted to £10.00

I always found that buying our child a ticket with the railcard made it cheaper than not buying the child seat and just paying for the adults. Even though she was tiny and didn't 'need' a seat as such, the extra space was welcome!
I've spent all afternoon trying to buy a 3 year senior railcard but to no avail, can you only buy a one year with this promo deal? Does anyone know please?

It only works for 1 year cards. The three year ones have just a fraction over 20% discount. The 20% offer comes around every year at renewal time, so the 3 year card would just save you admin and cover you against price rises - if you want to pay so far in advance.
