Would rather walk home than use Uber,
So much uber hate... if you live in London better than getting the night bus
I wonder how many people commenting saying wouldn't use uber actually have. For the vast majority of people under 30 living in London who go out regularly it's brilliant on a night out.

Surely, this is a bad risk for anyone in London? Uber are currently appealing against having their licence revoked. If they lose the appeal these will be worthless other than for scraping ice from windscreens. Sorry it's cold from me!

Still enough time
Gradually being banned in a few cities so a bit pointless. Like buying a voucher for toys r us.

Why?

Anybody know if you can buy these vouchers, put the credit on your account / app, then use the credit in the States ? would have thought that you could..................

Agreed, I would not put my life in danger.

Life in danger?! Bit dramatic.

The cars HAVE to be new or nearly new (I think within 3 years old) , they have to have all the same checks done and local authority licences that any cabbie has. What on earth is putting your life in so much DANGER?

Work off the xmas dinner

That's probably the most sensible answer I'll get!
I’ve used UBER many times and it’s really fluid and easy. Book from your phone and see it arrive live on a map.

easy peasy.

You’ll find these gift cards in aisle 7 - which the way Uber goes means Aisle 1 then Aisle 3 on to Aisle 11 then Aisle 13 then Aisle 4 then Aisle 9 then Aisle 6 and then stop and point “Aisle 7 is just over there ->..... “

Then the driver hardly speaks a word of English and is totally lost without the sat nav in his phone... no idea whatsoever of local roads ... if it told him to go into a canal he probably would!!!
They only seem interested in getting good feedback

Never had that experience in the last few years. What is happening is politics fuelled by lurid headlines along with some equally stupid moves from the previous Uber CEO.

Doesn't work unfortunately. But you can use the credit for Uber Eats.

Would rather get the night bus. Free and better for the enviroment
Gotta say, the vast majority of these people 'would rather die than use Uber' 'would rather walk in the rain with 1 leg than use Uber'....

Are you actually based in London?! Because Uber, in my personal usage, has been an absolute lifesaver.

I got to and from a family place in SE London from West, on Boxing Day, with 4 people in tow, for under 45 quid.

I couldn't do HALF of ONE of those journeys in a black cab for 45 quid.

Until a rival app offers better or similar pricing, or black cab fares are capped, Uber are by far the best mode of private transport around.
36 Rapes sexual assaults by Uber drivers last year. Any surprise they’re being banned in London. But there’s still plenty of you cheapskates out there that will take a chance. Buy a voucher for your wife/Girlfriend or your Mum.

Where is the source of that figure please? Is that Rapes and Sexual assaults? Rapes or Sexual assaults? And where is that? London? UK? World? What's the figure for Black Cab drivers as comparison?

And.... They have to do the exact same checks and same local private licence that all taxi drivers have to get. The difference is, when you leave your uber, you have a record of what car you got into and who your driver was, unlike hopping in a black cab.

Sadly, some uber drivers have committed crimes. So have some plumbers, some police officers , some dentists etc etc.... So don't you use any one to do anything?? What do you do for a living? Because I guarantee some of your profession have committed crimes too.

It is quite amazing what influence tabloid media has on the masses.
Thank you for posting, heat added, roll on the black cab drivers and their wife's.

Prime example of headlines at work without checking sources. Almost being hypnotised.
Black cabbies are overpriced, inefficient, obsolete and replaceable with a simple app. Technology wiping them out and they're not happy about it after all the training and expenditure. So their only remaining defense is "all Uber drivers are bad/rapists/... "

Here is an example of a black cab article

See? Any human can do it. It's not dependant on what company or vehicle they work for.
Also this deal might be store specific. Isn't available in local sainsburys

Looks selective, still at the full price in Putney

Isn't it funny how none of the hysterical Uber Haters haven't been back to comment on reasoned and rational debate?
Edited by: "evostick47" 27th Dec 2017
I don't see the point to debate anything about it or try to influence other people. It's a free consumers' market, everyone can express his / her own preference.
It's just like some people want to fly Ryanair because it is cheap, if it works out, then great, but if the flight gets cancelled, then it is their own problem. You get what you pay for, and you take your own risk.
Companies got to make money somewhere, if they are charging at a much lower price consistently, then something else got to be compromised.
Now confirmed nationwide until Jan 9. Picked up some today. As I said earlier, works on Uber Eats as well.
Only on big shops.

When they talk about "The black cab rapist" everyone knows exactly who you are talking about. Use "The uber rapist" and it could be absolutely any one from dozens. That is before we get to surge pricing, dodgy routes and "is the driver really who Uber think he is".
Perhaps all you Knowledgeable Uber users could explain to me why they are currently working on a suspended licence in London and are in the High court in June trying to get there licence back.

Source is Met Police. Black cab drivers last year 0. They don’t have the same checks as Black cab drivers another one of the reasons they lost they’re licence in London, falsified medicals on 11,000 TFL minicab licences. And 0 serious offences last year is the reason you don’t need a record of whose cab you just got out of. Do some research. They’re cheap for a reason.
