If anyone can post a better deal on a similarly spec'd bike, they are most welcome to do so, instead of just voting cold for no good reason.

heat from me. this kraken (or the '08 model) did extremely well in an mbuk test against more popular brands. not too much to think about at this price.

Funny.

Used to be that you added a basket to the bike.

How things change, huh?

seems ok for the money but Im after this seems ok for the money but Im after this http://www.evanscycles.com/products/rocky-mountain/altitude-50-2009-mountain-bike-ec022011?query=altitude%2050

Chainreaction are doing that Rocky Mountain Altitude 50 2009 £100 cheaper at £1499.00,

Hot from me. I got this bike for the same price in Feb through a cycle to work scheme and I like it a lot. This deal comes around every couple of months or so, the 30% off GT bikes is a good one as well. If you have a look at their online promotions history ]here it gives you an idea of the offers and when they come around.

Impressive parts for the price - you wouldn't go too far wrong with this, and I'm not usually a Halfrauds fan.

As mentioned, if possible check with your work and see if you can qualify for the bike to work scheme, as that can give you either a lot cheaper bike or a lot more bike for your money.

I'm not 100% sure, but there could possibly be 6% quidco cash back on this as well.

can`t find it on there I know they had the altitude 30 cheaper but sold out

I got one of these 4 years ago (before the brakes were hydraulic) and it's the most reliable bike I've ever owned.

Tidy spec.

Just make sure it fits you or you're chucking money away.

voted cold the picture shows a bike with no pedals, hardly worth £300 odd quid if you can't even get the bike in motion.

LOL - genius. You've brightened up my Monday morning

Carrera stuff is quality.....my 1996 Carrera Gravity is still going strong and has had plenty of abuse. It was £350 back then and you get loads more for the money these days.
Only changes have been an upgrade to V brakes and changed the forks to rock shox.

Available in 16", 18", 20" or 22" from the link posted, just look to the left of the product image.

Looks good to me, although 20% off this companies products normally means the price is just about retail anywhere else lol :w00t:

Hot from. me. I had an 08 Kraken that was a great ride (before it got nicked!).

Nice find.,

It does come with pedals It even tells you what type in the spec list.

£300 gets you so much more bike than £200..
not a fan of halfords, any other retailers with similar deal?

In a word NO....this bike gets recoimended frequently on bikeradar MTB forum at the higher price because it's a very capable machine, spec wise it on par with the GT avalanch 2.

hi mate, i have owned an avalanche 2 and i now own this kraken carrera 08 model.

i must say, i agree that the carrera is definately on parr with the GT, i actually prefer my carrera over the GT!

Smooth drive, smoth gear changes, lock out on forks (not that it ever gets used?)

I paid £270 though brand new, from halfords as my mate works their, it was a returned bike without a chain & my mate got plenty of discount knocked off and said it was for him not me :P cheeky cheeky..

Well worth every penny, i couldn't recommend it enough!

paid around £500 for one of these a couple of years ago and its been great on and off road, would recommend at this price! Bargain!! :-) H&R

Peter Crouch I'm sure you can afford a better bike than this!

How tall are you? a 22" frame is massive! I'm a shade under 6' and I ride a 17" frame. Much easier to manage on the rough stuff, especially when going down hill!

Original Poster Banned

I'm 6ft 1 inch and i have the 20 inch frame on my Kraken.

I went into Halfords to see this bike before I bought it online - it is a fabulous bike and has all new stuff like hydraulic disc brakes etc,. which at first daunted me but assistant said that this should not have to be touched or looked at for at least 4 years with usage of 5 days a week.

The bike rides well and has very good components. Looks like need to get this one insured

has this expired? I've added to basket, but it's still showing £399?
