Walsall FC are offering free football to under-18s for the 2011-12 season.

Under-18s who sign up by April 2 will be offered a season ticket for £46 and youngsters with the tickets will be given £2 ‘cashback’ at each League game, meaning ‘free’ football if they attend all 23 matches.

Chief executive Stefan Gamble said: “The fans have told us what they want and we have responded by offering free football to youngsters and freezing prices for the third consecutive season. The town’s youngsters are the future of this club and we are trying to do everything we can to get them behind the club. The free ticket offer is a great way to get involved and watch live football in a modern stadium with superb facilities.”

Those prices are only available during the club’s ‘early bird’ promotion, which starts on March 1 and runs until April 2.

The club have also extended the age category in which children can join ‘Swifty’s Squad’, meaning youngsters who are under-12 on August 6, 2011 can attend all home League games for free on a match-by-match basis when accompanied by a full paying adult.

stunning deal, more football league teams should follow suit!

good deal hopefully will get people watching their local team if other small teams did this

Good Deal, well done Walsall !

Amazing offer, hats off to Walsall FC for this initiative!! As has already been said, if more clubs, even premier league clubs offered something similar, the grounds would be packed!!

UTV!

premier league clubs would be bankrupt though

Many of them already are.

Yeah, just heard this on talksport - good deal

That's a stunning deal! I'm a proud Baggies fan but this is just astonishing, we'd never get this at The Hawthorns.

awesome deal.... well done Walsall, an excellent idea to get more youngsters into the games; hopefully more will come back in seasons to follow.. scorchio!

Whilst the Chairman gets a lot of bad press at Walsall (I'm a lifelong fan) - he has kept us debt free and offers like this one are great for a club sandwiched between 4 Premier League clubs (Wolves, WBA, Birmingham, Villa).

unlucky

Excellent example, however to be honest would only be a viable option to a club of Walsall's stature. Premier league clubs [England] could never afford to let deals like this be available, way to costly.

So they're paying people to come to see Walsall?(_;).

But seriously that's a good initiative. Derby actually give free season tickets to under 12s (each adult ST holder can get a free kids one) but in a way this a cleverer deal and should help breed some loyalty.

I'm not sure. The vast majority of Premier League clubs' money comes from TV revenue. Revenue from tickets (especially kids tickets) is likely to be minimal for the top team, but a larger proportion of revenue for smaller teams (I'd imagine).

Great offer by the club though. Hope it gives a boost to attendances. Even without the cashback it's still a pretty good deal.

You haven't quite fully grasped the concept, have you? (_;)

Not a bad idea, bribe the kids to come, might work. shame most people just go for supporting top premier league clubs and support them from the armchair.

hope this works for them, incentives like this were tried with my local club macc town but have been largly ineffective, doesn't help with their been the two big manchester clubs up the road.

Good decision for Walsall.
They've had a topsy-turvy season and their gates have suffered. They desperately need to get more people in and have sadly been losing fans to other clubs, including my beloved Villa.
Hope this does the trick as we'd all like to see Walsall prosper!

Not really. Most of their money comes from tv rights and merchandise.

Plus the advantage of this scheme is that Walsall will sell more programmes, kits, scarves and food etc.

Always good to see clubs trying to get fans in by offering good deals like this.

I'm pretty sure I did thanks. You buy the season ticket and then they pay you back for actually using it?

But that comment was in jest - it's a clever idea.

Well done, Walsall FC

Excellent deal.
I went to see Exeter v Walsall a few weeks ago, why they're in the position they are is beyond me, they played really good attractive football and were unlucky to lose the game.

Southend should do this to watch their rubbish football but won't and there in League 2 so this is an excellent deal!

Thumbs up

Never heard of them.
