Ok this deal probably isn't for everyone but and it may not even be that widespread but I thought I would share it regardless as it may help someone else.

Im based in Belfast NI and my local currys (forest side branch) were doing a clearance deal on the 2014 MacBook airs. As you can see from the picture they are selling the 8gb ram/128ssd version of these for £649.91. This in itself isn't a bad price but I asked the guy in store if their £50 off offer on new airs also applied to this and once he had checked he came back and said yes it did which brings this to £599.91. So less than £600 for a new air with 8gb of ram I think is pretty good so I've bought it. The only downside is that they only had the display model left so for one thing mine is not pristine out of the box and another thing it doesn't leave any in that branch for anyone else (sorry). Hopefully though other stores will be doing similar deals.

I do realise, having looked at a few other Apple threads, that apple products do tend to generate more debate than most other products. Most people tend to either have the opinion that Apple products are either overpriced compared to their windows equivalents or they take the opposing view that you get a premium product for the price. To be honest I'm not really interested in either view and would prefer it if you could vote this on the deal and not let the fact that it is Apple influence your judgement either way. Me personally I do own an iPad and love it but this will be my first foray into the Mac OS having always previously used windows. I may love it or I may hate it only time will tell.

Thanks for looking and I hope this is useful to someone.

P.s the link is to the new MacBook Air as this deal doesn't appear on their website. Don't let this confuse you as the deal is on a 2014 model. Thanks

Do you have the model number? Looking at the small pic on my phone this is a 13"?

Yes it's the 13", sorry I've updated the title to reflect this now. The currys model number on the display is 13 mba 2014.

Not seeing it as low as this anywhere, for this spec, so heat added!

Local deal no anyone in Bournemouth cold

128GB SSD, cold.

A ban is maybe a bit severe, maybe a link to a specsavers deal would be a better alternative.

18 posts about a phone, tablet or laptop from Apple without it becoming a slanging match about being overpriced, buyers being sheep, you can get the same or better for £7 and coupons out of the paper etc... That must be a record for HUKD.

Decent deal for you but I'm gonna say cold as it's very store specific and the condition would be likely better from Apple refurb store for nearly the same money.

I do not need one, nor do I particularly want one, but I'm still tempted to nip down and have a look for one... damn you HUKD

I got this model out of CEX in pristine condition last month for a little less [£585] and I'd highly recommend it. It is fast and the battery lasts for an age!

As for the HDD, you get 106GB usable space. Mine still has 101GB on it once I've installed what I needed. I just bought myself a Nifty drive for an SD Micro card and shoved all my music on a 64GB card. That way, I can have all my tunes [and pics] on the Air, but my HDD space isn't even touched.

I was in the PC World store in Lisburn, NI last night and saw a Macbook Pro, 8Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD for £899. I can't say which year it was.

There are definitely alot of instore deals in Currys recently that don't appear on their website.
Also I know 128Gb is a bit tight for a lot of people but I bought my wife this laptop and its brilliant if you just use one or two programs.

Just popped into the two stores in Hove and neither had any stock nor had any Mac deals going on.
I think you have to be certified "Officially Useless" to work in Currys/PC World anyway so there was probably wall to wall 2014 Mac Airs sitting in the stock room gathering dust.

More apple less bang for more buck and it's in store deal posting this nonsense should be banned never mind the commentators.

Spend the money building a hackintosh and get a better pic with ability to run multiple os's in some cases better than the original apple over priced rubbish

Yeah, totally worth it when any OS update sends your setup into a kernel panic.

Building a stable hackintosh is not a stroll in the park.

So is this a deal for a laptop only one person can find? And even then its a display model which has been left on 24/7 and had everybody and their mother given it a good fingering!

Almost a sensible price. My HP spectre x360 about the best alternative out there (and imo far superior)

Very true but remember that OSX doesn't correctly support exotic hardware so you may find yourself with something a little less stable. Best to stick with the simple builds and CPU graphics.
And it's comparing Apples with oranges because it's difficult to configure up a laptop (this post) with the hardware necessary.
You will be able to change the Wifi card but you will probably loose bluetooth in the attempt and you can guarantee yourself a whole load of grief with desecrate graphics, port mapping and poor drivers that don't wake up properly after sleep.

Get this now. Seriously. A chance to get into Apple's OS X ecosystem for less than £600. This is an amazing opportunity. Hot, hot, hot!!!

If you own an iPhone or iPad and still use Windows, this is your chance to get the seamless experience Apple wants you to enjoy.

Word to the wise before buying a display model from DSG (currys PC World) check the coverage report (about this mac/support/check coverage) before you purchase.

Apple deem display models to have been activated, and if they are beyond the first year free warranty when you buy there is no way that Apple will/can allow you to extend it. Trust me on this I spent nearly 4 hours on the phone to various people including a 2 hour call to Cupertino. There is no way round it!

That said if you are comfortable with that risk, and happy with the condition (mine was mint) then it is a cheap way to get a Mac, although in future I would go for Apple refurb. The battery for display models will not be in prime condition having spent a hard life on perma-charge. Mine had a service warning within 2 weeks of purchase, but has continued to work for nearly 2 years without intervention.

Not voted either way.
Mike

So one guy got a well used display model that's been running 24/7 for at least a year with a one-off manager discount and everyone votes hot.

HUKD in a nutshell. :-)

Cold as its not apple...**** it is apple.

Too late I'm already confused haha. even 600 quid , seems like a lot for a laptop.

Unknown brand, keep well clear... go for a reputable name like Onkyo instead.
