I'm struggling to understand why a £1100 laptop with only 128GB of memory and no possibility of being upgraded is 'good value'

Haters will hate but it’s a good price.

Is it? Argos are selling for the same price. eBuyer are even cheaper. Looks like Apple cannot shift these at their ridiculous "Brexit" prices.

I stand corrected.

Or maybe because 128GB with no SD slot is pushing it

It's a good price but 128gb is just way too small these days. Shame it's an extra £200 for the 256gb.

Cold not Xiaomi!!! There's a nw Xiaomi Pro, look sexy, I only want that..... But buying from China is too much risk

What are "Brexit prices"?

£999 is the price to beat (Very cashback deal) but personally I’m waiting for Black Friday and won’t pay a penny over £900 for the 128GB or £1050 for the 256GB

I have a Surface Pro I’m pretty happy with so not in any rush to get a Macbook Pro.

Sitting here fixing my macbook as i read this. Ssd failed. But hey, replaced 128gb for 256gb

i believe they have simply matched argos pricing. Ebuyer is still more expensive for the 256gb.
256gb is the minimum for me. holding out for Black Friday though.
My JL Argos price match is fixed for 28 days which will see me to Black Friday even if they push price up online / instore.

it's good value in comparison to other retailers for the same product not the fact you are comparing to other items.

If youre buying a mac pro.... 16gb ram, 256gb ssd, w/ discrete graphics is the minimum you want to go. With that it will outlast any other laptop of the same generation easily.

I bought this model. I think it's great. Don't even know if it has a fan because never heard it running.

Got mine for 995 however the extra 2 year warranty from JL would have been worth it.

Sit down again. Argos are not giving the same warranty and Very are very Very.

Great deal, heat added.

I'll rephrase that. I'm comparing intel i7 processors bundled with memory in a fancy case. You can get them elsewhere, up-gradable and at a better price

Yes but discrete gpu puts you on a 15" model, a lot more expensive and less portable. Different products for different use cases.

Good value as it is cheaper than other retailers, including the apple store, with a better warranty. That's what this site is about.

Yes you are paying an apple tax, no doubt about it, but if you start comparing realistic equivalents like the XPS series then the uplift is not as big as it seems.

Many people on every Mac thread compare this to a run of the mill i5 256gb ssd based machine, but forget the premium components used in these devices. The screens are the best out there, the SSD's and RAM amongst the fastest etc.

There are cheaper options if you just need a workhorse...

Does this model have the touch bar?

This 2 year warranty crap is BS on macbooks. They will only start failing after 5+ years. End of the day there's no way on gods earth any company is going to tell me they're not giving me a spanking new one if mine fails after 2 or 3 years. Warranties and applecare can go do one.

I run a 2009 MacBook Pro, no issues. See what Black Friday brings.

I have a 5 years old Macbook Air with an i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD bought for £729, and a 1.5 years old Dell Latitude Ultrabook with an i7, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD bought for over £1000. Even though the MBA is over 3 times older than the Dell, I keep going back to it for daily use and the Dell is most of the time gathering dust. The MBA has got a better display (this Macbook Pro has an even better display), faster SSD and actually feels faster. I upgraded it to the latest macOS (High Sierra) released 1.5 months ago and it works like a charm; on the other hand Windows 10 on the Dell feels sluggish. The MBA looks great thanks to its metal construction where as some of the plastic panels on the Dell have started creaking (probably because of ill-designed heat dissipation causing the plastic to frequently expand and contract).
All in, the MBA feels like a more complete machine and feels like it's got at least a couple of years more before it goes obsolete - wouldn't mind paying £1000+ for a Macbook Pro to replace it.
Don't knock it until you tried it.

Brilliant deal hot! I got the 256GB model last week from John Lewis for £1299 after Argos price match with 0% 12months.
Came with 3 year guarantee too on the receipt even though the sales person thought it was only 2 years as the 3 year offer is over. Lucky me

My late 2008 MacBook Pro 15in is still working great after an SSD upgrade but I decided it was time to get a new one anyway after nearly 9 years!! What I love most about this is actually the speakers! The sound is amazing!
Love the keyboard too feels great.

Also to those that don't see how MacBooks can be good value due to the old tech inside. Think of it this way...I would rather drive a lower spec older BMW than a high spec brand new Hyundai/Citreon etc. Their laptops just work perfectly all the time and quiet...my work laptop is a new HP and its so noisy even when the room isn't hot.

That MacBook Air had a below average screen so if you bought a Dell 18 months ago with a worse screen then more fool you for not doing your research as Dell have had plenty of good screens for years on their laptops much better than that.
Of course the Dell cost more as it had an i7, 8GB, 256GB versus i5, 4GB, 128GB and Latitudes often come with a 3 year onsite warranty versus 1 year return to base for Apple.
The only thing your post confirms is that you have no grasp of context and mistake your own ignorance for knowledge. The Apple haters will use you as a classic example of a clueless Apple buyer.

I have a brand new HP laptop (for work) its all plastic and imitates the look of a MacBook. The screen is nothing compared to my 9 year old MacBook Pro 15in LOL and the speakers are supposed to be Bang & Olufsen but sound rubbish. Have you heard the speakers in the 2016/17 MacBooks? the bass is out of this world awesome.

What are "Brexit prices"?

Apple claimed the drop in the £ caused by Brexit justified huge price hikes across the entire range.

Of course they claimed other reasons for the price hikes in Europe.

All in all just gouging fanboy customers under the misdirection of currency news.

I just checked and its an hp elitebook 840 g3 with a core i5. Just did a search and I'm thinking they are around £800. I certainly wouldn't pay that for it myself.

Not to mention the built-in spyware that are in most HP laptops from factory courtesy of shoddy work by the developers HP contracted. Cheap comes at a cost!

So what is so special about a dual core i5 2.3 GHz processor? Seems to me to be pretty bog standard. SSD and RAM speeds being 'fastest' will make minimal impact, better to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB

....... Oh wait

Lovely case though

128gb LMFAO. Year after year there seems to be an endless stream of muppets willing to buy this crap "Because Apple"

Pathetic.
