It's a step up from the Rockchip the older version used.
This or Nintendo 2ds XL?
I tried one of these last year at a much cheaper price too. I couldn’t get on with it. Very buggy and not very user friendly. I swapped it for a home brew ps vita instead and am much happier!

Yeah you tried the older version this has new specs like more ram, newer android os and processor. That's why yours was cheaper as older spec.

2ds xl if you plan to mod it. You could play older games via a r4 card on that too.
i bought the GPD Win just over a year ago and the battery expanded to such an extent that you could see significant visible bending on the underside and to the keyboard. This issue as i discovered is pretty common to the the GDP Win and has affected quite a number of people. Unfortunately its almost impossible to get a hold of a replacement battery and GDP/Gearbest where i purchased the device are not interested in helping (this has been confirmed by many buyers - even when in warranty).
i'd steer clear of their products as they seem to be using sub-standard batteries and don't care when they fail.

see here for some details. i still have not managed to get a replacement battery reddit.com/r/g…ry/

If it were me I'd be looking to figure out what the wires do. If the white wire is just a temperature sensor then there's no electrical reason why any lithium cell would be incompatible, apart from the high maximum voltage on the original cell.

Hi CampGareth33, i am looking into that but the battery also needs to fit into the case, have the correct connector and sufficient output. The existing battery was a very tight fit when i opened up the case to take it out which is why when it failed it was literally buckling the case. i'm amazed given how many people this failure has happened too GDP have not at least made a replacement battery available even at a cost. They just dont seem to care

Remember this is the device that had massive voltage drooping problems when the SoC was heavily loaded causing crashes. Their solution? Send people a new surface mount component to solder into their devices.

I feel like GPD expects their users to be capable of doing a bit of soldering and if that's not a skill you have at the moment now's the perfect time to learn. A new battery connector's a fairly easy starter job. Battery size matters, output doesn't matter much but if you want to be safe you could get a battery with a high C rating (a 5Ah 10C battery could output 50A until it is discharged)

are you being serious? there is no contest a 2ds XL
These are great. I bought one for my boy for Christmas and he is really pleased with it. I will be honest though you do need to be a bit tech savvy to get the best out of it. i/e changing the launcher and adding the gubbins to it so that you can run Dreamcast Games etc.

No, because I don't game full stop, but look at it...would be worth a punt at £40-£60 or so, but almost £200?

If you don't game at all, why even look at this post? Also for what it can do, it's a bargain. You can play your entire back catalogue of old retro games on the go, as well as new games from the Play Store. Also you can watch videos, YouTube etc.
cool, at least there's bluetooth now - had fun playing on it when i got one earlier last year but i noticed after a while my thumbs started to get cramps from the small analog sticks and placement of them - buttons were a bit sticky too - id prolly wait for the gpd win 2

Mediatek MT8176 is a perfectly good chipset but the GPU is a bit dated. Great for tablets if you aren't gaming much on them, I have been using a Zenpad 3S with it recently and it works very nicely indeed.

Kind of a weird choice for a machine aimed at gaming though.

That's so disappointing. I've been lusting after the GPD Win for a while now. Oh well, I suppose it's one less thing that I *need* to buy

I've stayed away from the emu.modding scene since my psp... wish i didnt see this comment!!! might have to get a vita...
can it do dreamcast?
I have the previous GPD xd and absolutely love it. Still haven't got round to getting a decent Dreamcast emulator on it but really been enjoying revisiting old N64, PSX, and Master System games. Didn't realise this one was coming out as may have waited but still very much enjoying the one I have.

Ive had a modded PSP but they're limited. Vita's can do more than PSP, theyre better quality and built and more capable in every regard. The latest mods allow users to download vita games without having to insert the original card, legal bit: obviously own the original game or its breaching copyright...
Battery lasts 4 to 6 hours of hard gaming, internet, Bluetooth, no Dreamcast emu but I've had a n64 working through a PSP homebrew on the Vita, also does PSP, PS1 plus all the usual retro consoles. Loving mine

The Vita having one of the best dpads ever made helps as well. Also the adapter so you could use normal microsd cards instead of Sony ones was a godsend, super easy to put your whole retro library on there.
Is it still the case you need to be on 1.6 Vita firmware to MOD or is here a way with the latest firmware
It may be worth buying from within the EU from dragonbox or elsewhere.

If this gets caught by customs you'll have to add 20% for VAT and 2.5% duty bringing the price to £217.75

This is so not true. The controls on a vita do not suit loads of retro games that the GPD supports 100%.

I had 3 different modded psps! 1000 2000 and a go. wait was there a 3000 too? i still have the go in a drawer somewhere. untouched for ages!!!
Thank you for the info. really want a vita now... even though will never have the time to play!
Where to get a modded PSPS
Would the GPD watchers do me a favour and keep their eyes open for a GPD Pocket that delivered in the UK would cost £350 or less please. I don't fancy taking the customs risk ordering from outside the EU and prices for inside the EU Pockets seem to have risen to something like £400.
Still awaiting my refund from a faulty laptop purchased in December 2017. It’s now March 2018. They acknowledged receipt of the faulty goods which cost me £20 to return, and despite several emails stating I wanted a refund (an option they offered me) I was sent a replacement. This was refused at my door to the courier as per Geekbuyings instructions. Now one month later they are ignoring my emails asking where my refund is. Emails take around a week to get a reply at the best of times. Worst purchase experience of my life, and im 60 ! Maybe I will never get my money back but at least I can help you not lose yours. Is not someone who takes your money when you have nothing in return not a thief?

Pretty much most the ones you can emulate on most android devices so most consoles up to ps1 but not all games will play well can be trial and error depending on the emulator you use.

Yeah there was the 3000 models too then after that their final model was more stripped down so no multi player or wifi and it was known as the street model.

It costs more than that just taking a risk outside EU so don't think you'll manage at that price target. You may for just under £400 though.
