Good question. Reading the techradar review. Doesnt look like a good 4k TV.

For a second rate panel? Doubtful
Isn’t well worded, if you want the 20% off you need to first log in/create a account, then press on the tab button on the top left.

Select deals then Students/Employee (this will show if you’ve used a linked email).

Then takes you to the dedicated discounts page, note that all TV’s won’t show there..

You’ll need the original link for the TV you want, loading it after verifying student status via UNiDAYS or employee account log in.

End result is 20% off any TV (tested 6 or so..) and then use the additional 5% off code.

Great gaming TV that brings the closest high end performance and low input lag to 43” sizing! 43” and 49” don’t have Samsung free sync FYI. 60hz refresh instead of 120hz too.

At £455 I’m sure it’s one of the best out there for gaming and series watching in its size. Sometimes it’s not the budget that’s the problem but where it goes, otherwise I do agree there are better screens but for at least double the cost!

Comes in at 21st best ranked for gaming on RTINGS

This is such a flawed review, basically saying it's not as good as other TVs [that cost twice the price]. What it fails to do is compare to other brands in the same price bracket
Q70 is were it starts to get interesting.
Much better panel than the Q60.

Fair. I didn't factor that in. The C9 65 inch is £1,600. Almost double. Will be interesting to see if B9 drops

No I didn't take as a dig. I'm clueless and in the boat and just trying to grab a bargain. In all fairness, I think the review was written months ago so there was no discount on price.

Haha, you’re asking the wrong person mate Is it “better”? Well the Sony is FALD and was pretty much lauded as THE best LCD TV when I first started looking into replacing my old Sony. It’s since dropped by about 500 so in my opinion, it’s a great TV.

So why didn’t I buy it when I had it on price match at J? Like screen burn on OLEDs, there was a lot of negativity regarding the input lag. I watched a load of videos on YouTube to see if I could see how bad it was. To be honest, it looked fine. There were issues with black crushing due to the FALD but that wouldn’t bother me, anyone who is a massive movie only buff should really be looking at OLED.

From what I can see, the Q6 is a great TV, I have the NU8000 and I love it, this is better by all accounts. The down side is that due to all the videos I’ve watched, I can now see things I didn't really notice before. I was watching The Revenant last weekend, for some reason it has the subtitles on the top of the screen. As it’s a dark film, I could see the brightness rising every time they appeared as the edge lit fires the light up to the top. Did it bother me? Not really, but it does show that some people perhaps over analyse what they’re watching instead of just enjoying the film.

Sorry that’s not a definitive, at the end of the day, “best” is subjective, the 9005 is a great TV, just be careful and don’t sacrifice picture quality for size, a great 55” is likely to give more pleasure than a crappy 65”. When you decide, let me know, it might help me decide, I’m in even more of a pickle mow OLED is potentially on the cards too!!!

Thanks. I got the Sony delivered. Yet to open. I went in with the same thought. Better quality than size. But I don't change the TV so often. So really feel like going for 65". Brand or technology doesn't matter, but budget is around £850.

I don't really need latest tech like, hdmi 2.1 and earc. I mostly watch movies. No gaming at all. Oled is a good option, but way outside my budget. Spent £824 on Sony, and then there is £200 gift card from JL. So feel definitely a good buy. But if I can get Sony KD65XF9005 under £1000, might go for it.

Why don't they just make it easy for us and produce just one TV?? The Sony should be great and with those vouchers you can get a really nice soundbar to get a good setup

As for the size issue, put it this way, I remember when we had a 21” which was fine, then 32” which was massive but soon seemed too small, we went to 40” which was like a cinema for a few months, then too small, so we went to 49” which again was massive at first.... now I’m looking for 55” no doubt I’d then want to go to 60, then 65....

Already got a soundbar. Don't want to upgrade it. Voucher got 2year validity. So might come useful for something else. Did you consider Philips ambilight series?
My parents have the TV, not worth the price even at £800 and can't believe they paid £1300. HDR peak brightness is poor and the build quality isnt great. Plastic feet for the TV stand? Input lag is very low and generally feels great to game on especially with freesync,1440p and 120hz is also a nice addition. Speakers are better than expected and you get two remote controls. Zero local dimming, movies look terrible as the black bars just bleed at the edges.. Yes it's an edge lit TV as well and I don't think it's 10 bit ethier.. For non HDR gaming it's great but other than that wouldn't recommend. In my opinion Spend more on a quality 55 inch TV instead, my parents love it but they know nothing about tech lol. They judge how good a TV is by the size

I would recommend the LG 55SK9500 for over a £100 less, very bright IPS TV. Good HDR and great SDR brightness. Better in every way.. Local dimming is poor at times but at least it has it

Agree about the HDR brightness as a number of reviews shared this as a negative point, it’s not of the quality compared to other premium 4K 55”+ TVs.

The panel has both got ‘supreme’ local dimming and is 10bit. Take the supreme local dimming with a pinch of salt though!

Can’t stress this enough, if using this deal you are not paying near the comparative cost of premium TVs.

If you were to start comparing the Q70/80 then that’s where it counts, as they’re more similar in specs and price.

Even with the discount the 65” Q70R (model higher up) comes in cheaper than the best offer I could quick search for on the LG B9.

Price isn’t the only factor to weigh up with a long term purchase though so always have a look around on reviews.

Here’s a comparison between the two.

rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-q70r-vs-lg-b9/782/915?usage=7318&threshold=0.1

Edit: Screenshot of the Q70 with 20% off, the additional 5% off code doesn’t work anymore it seems. No longer cheaper than best offer on LG B9 as it comes to £1,039.20 vs prior total of £987.24

Yeah it really is. Personally I prefer Samsung over LG but the only Samsung models that can compete with LG models like that are the Q9 series (top, top models), even then the LG is still rated superior. Each to their own though, Id go Samsung. Taking nothing away from this deal though, even though its not the best, still a lot of tv for the money.

Crappyest TV had 70r so bad motion
Overall in my bright room QLED would be better that OLED but I can't stand lack of Dolby Vision on Samsungs ;/
Expired. All Prices have gone up
Thanks OP! Great bargain, Richersounds couldn’t price match (was looking for 6 years warranty instead of 5), plus an extra £10 off.

Price bought at was ~£70 cheaper than their trade bulk buy cost. The manager was shocked to see the price I got the TV at.

Looks great so far, will be doing some calibration later this week. Input lag is night and day between other TV sets I’ve used.

Meh, got to say I was left disappointed once it was movie night in a dark room!

39206826-kTKVJ.jpg

Camera certainly picks more up than the eye, but it was so distracting! Sort of ruined a movie I really enjoyed watching at a IMAX. Not really comparable I know but it was the complete opposite. I was sat there thinking it’ll go away any minute now...

Visible across all modes, including game mode. Even when the room is very brightly lit edges can be seen to bleed light on dark/black colours.

Trying out the Q70, shame as this was a real bargain and compact. Gaming is great on it bar the deep blacks. Here’s a clip from a loading screen on COD.
