Quarter of the price, quarter of the build quality, quarter of the track pad quality, quarter of the screen quality... yep it would probably be a quarter of the price

That's close to entry level smartphone specs
Is a new model likely to come out in the next 4-5 months?

Personally wouldn’t given the new 13/14 will be a few months away at most. You might be able to snag the better 4 port version at a cheaper price due to the new one looming.

and THIS is exactly why people buy Apple... haha nah fair enough i guess if aesthetic is a priority for you. they are nice and sleek however i'd priorities performance any day.

and then when you consider the inside components (the stuff that actually matters), are worth next-to-nothing; you'll realise you're paying £700+ on a laptop case. and i have no idea what you mean in reference to the trackpad; never noticed a difference between any windows / mac laptop in terms of quality of performance
Same price at Very but they have an offer of 10% credit back on bnpl so £1k

Performance is not bad tbh. I've still got a 2013 macbook air and its hardly slowed down and doesn't look dated. Mac OS is really well optimised so its not purely about specs.

im not saying the performance is 'bad'. the point i was making is that the COMPONENTS are what determine the performance and if you matched the same specs on a Windows machine; it'd be significantly cheaper. i love the Mac OS, honestly. hence why i mentioned in my previous comment that mirroring Mac OS on a Windows is a viable option for those who love the Mac OS as a priority but dont want to spend £1000+ on a laptop. and also just to mention, Apple make models of Macbooks obsolete which will disable the OS from being upgraded at a certain point. Windows don't do that, you can upgrade the components without having to worry about software issues.

Like you said, people who buy Macs don't really care about that stuff

dont care or dont know? i can guarantee if most Mac people understood that the components are what cost the most money, they'd probably sacrifice their priority in aesthetics for a better performing machine if it meant they could buy 5 Window machines for the price of one Mac. but i hear what you're saying, it is all about personal preference at the end of the day.

I don't think so. I'm no computer genius but I've used them all my life. I've built a couple of computers know what is and isn't value for money. If I'm going to be using a computer for 5+ years I don't mind spending an extra £500 or so.

im sorry but if you think this laptop is good value for money, you're wrong. it might be a good price for a 2019 apple macbook pro 13.3 touch bar with touch id (with its respected specs). but it is NO WAY good value for money my guy hahaha.

Why are you so bothered about what other people want or like in a computer/laptop? why don't you just not comment on everything and stick to your own opinions?

I didn't mean that this laptop is value for money. I meant that I know what is and isn't value for money. Not everybody is counting their pennies and desperate to get the fastest computer for their budget. I'd rather look at this on my desk than some ugly black and flimsy plastic case straight out of 2010...

Apples actually have a resale value, every laptop I’ve had at the 500 quid price mark over the past ten years has broken. I still see apples holding some value even from 10 years ago! Most laptops are like a disposable lighter, macs are like a zippo. They both do the same thing, but one does it for much longer.

Judging by all of your comments you are the ideal fit for the internet and certainly the only weird one here.
To be fair, might as well wait for the new batch as it seems they might add the old keyboards and maybe give you a couple of normal ports.

which is why i said if you're someone who prioritizes AESTHETIC over PERFORMANCE then yeah, you probably wouldn't mind massively overpaying for a laptop. god man some people on this site think they're so entitled with their opinion i'm simply just letting OTHER people know that this ISN'T a good price for a laptop based on the specs. generic computer users may not understand why an APPLE laptop is triple the amount of Windows laptop with same spec.

'Overpaying' depends on what you value. I don't really understand when I tried to enforce my opinion on anybody? I openly acknowledged that its not the best value. You're right in saying that the average buyer may be tricked into thinking a Mac is a 'better laptop' based purely on performance, but many people now prioritise usability and aesthetics over raw performance. A sign of intelligence is to be able to see an argument from the perspective of others...

THANK YOU, FINALLY UNDERSTOOD MY POINT. i simply wanted to inform generic computer users that these machines aren't anything special. for £1000 you could get a windows machine with a SIGNIFICANT better performance than any Mac. god damn haha

I’m just curious as to why you need to try force your unwanted opinions on others? Am I doing the same to you? No, therefore it isn’t ironic.

my opinions may be unwanted to you. but i'd like to believe i might have stopped people from buying this OTT laptop if they dont prioritize aesthetic over performance, despite its HOT rating. i havent disregarded the Pros, i only wanted to raise awareness to the CONS. sorry if i came across passive aggressive i genuinely didnt expect you lot to get so defensive haha

THIS is what you can get for a windows machine with IDENTICAL specs to THIS macbook. YES, i know the mac has better quality plastics and so on so forth. but still, for generic users this is definitely worth being aware of.
I would prefer this over a Windows machine any day. I have a 2013 MacBook Pro, still supported and not had any issues in the 7 years I have owned it.
I value my time, and having something that, for me, just works, is worth the extra.
Edit - actually, I did have an issue, last year the screen protective coating started to come off, I booked an appointment at an Apple store, they replaced the screen free of charge.
Much prefer having a physical store to take an item to if it has an issue, than posting it of somewhere.

The best part about this laptop is that it’s covered for 4 years from purchase date if the keyboard fails.. which it might well do. But imagine that, a year down the line you send it off to Apple and they give you a brand new 2020/2021 13” back, with the buffs that come with that gen because this one isn’t made anymore... what a play

There's loads of windows laptops about half the price which will still be good in 5 years so I don't see this typical apple argument where Windows laptops become obsolete in 5 or 6 years. As for the apple customer service it is amongst the best for sure but I wouldn't spend 1k just for that alone.

Tbh even laptops in the £600 to 700 range you can get way better specs and a great screen for that price too.
Very likely this will be replaced in the next couple of months with the magic keyboard and a 1" increase in screen size just like the larger Pro. Well worth waiting for for a keyboard that can't break because of a grain of sand.
