I would totally buy an iPad if Apple would charge sensible prices in relation to storage. Like, these have a beast of a CPU inside, you can do some reasonably heavy editing work on an M1... But 64GB or storage, really? It's not enough for editing, I mean, it's not enough in general. Last gen even had 32Gb, a joke on any modern device. Then if you want to increase storage, the price increase is insulting. Like £200 extra for 256gb version, you can get a very decent spec laptop for that price, including an M1 MacBook air. It's all a ploy to get you on their cloud service so that they can milk you monthly. Their technology is great, but the ways in which they restrict you using it is frustrating.

The pricing on the Air has been problematic since the last model - with no 128Gb option going to the 256Gb model lands you in iPad Pro 128Gb territory - a mere £30 difference with the same processor.

    Pro:
    - 100 nits brighter
    - dual camera
    - x2 optical zoom
    - 4 speaker
    - Face ID
    - LiDAR
    - &c

If you have fast enough broadband the storage issue is less of a problem, most might not even notice it as iOS manages the storage of photos and caches quite well. I’m not saying 64gb is great but with OneDrive, iCloud Drive, Apple photos, google drive and google photos it’s much less of a big deal. If your like me with 30,000 pictures then you will be paying someone to keep them safe, I pay Apple £7 a month for 2000 GB shared around my whole family, this comes with other benefits like iCloud being used to store downloads and other app content, but you could pay google or even pay no one! ..but then like you said you will need more physical storage, stuff isn’t free, not sure if you’re angry with Apple prices, if so get a £40 Amazon fire with 1TB SD card..job done, just not safe, and a low grade

I actually got this model last week (cheaper even because of an eBay discount code) for my daughter, she is starting college soon, she will use the pencil for note taking and graphic designing (on a design course) which puts the MacBook Air out the picture as it can’t do any of those things, it’s also heavier and can’t run most iOS app (I know if can run some).

Apple prices do suck, but hotukdeals and offers like this make them more bearable.

I don't think you understand my issue. I don't want to pay for cloud storage, and I shouldn't have to. I just want a sensible amount of storage for a sensible price. £200 for an extra 192GB of base storage is insulting for a variety of reasons. I would never pay to store photos on a cloud service myself, especially not £7 a month. I prefer physical storage with backups.

Look at any other tablet. For argument sake, Samsung tab 8. 128gb model is £649, 256gb is £699. That's £50 extra to double base storage - sensible.

So THIS is how I’m being milked for 79p a month.

1 billion apple customers. Let's assume only 25% of them pay for cloud storage, and let's assume they all have the most basic cloud storage plan like you. That's 250 million x 79p per month. You can do the math, but yes, I would say that's some very effective milking.

Standard price: support.apple.com/en-…238 But you may be getting more from Google for your money.

iCloud is really for backup, not storage.
