You shouldn’t buy a computer with 8gb RAM in 2023, especially not for almost £1200.

Out of interest why do you think that? Are you planning to run particularly complex scientific models or something? If you are can I point you to the real "Pro" laptops in Apple's stable, namely the 14" and 16"variants.

The reason I ask is because following testing from thousands of tech sites, along with reviews from users following the millions of M1 computers that have been sold, the majority with "just 8GB of Ram", reflect that 8GB is actually more than adequate to get through almost any task that you can think of with ease.

This is not an Intel CPU and this does not run Windows. Yes, it is still a computer and yes it still has limitations, but at the end of the day there is no reason to think that someone will not get years of useful service out of this computer.

You need to reset your expectations. You no longer need a thick laptop with loads of fans to get good performance, yes, you really can get all day battery life on these and yes, 8GB of Ram really is enough for most people with this design. (edited)

8GB ! Way too much! Don't you know about apple's magic TARDIS ram? Everything fits into 12K honest

Why pay so much for 'last years model' and only 8GB RAM?? :/

Well, there are a few advantages for the relatively small price increase over the Air. You get a faster charger, higher core GPU, better battery, the touch bar (some love it, some hate it), and if you need to do anything that requires a sustained load it has a fan for active cooling which will keep it chugging along at max performance all the time.

Lots of people don't need the power of the 14/16" MacBook Pro and find the halfway house option of the 13" useful.

I'm typing this on a 16" MacBook Pro, I actually use the power for data science so it was worth the investment. My wife uses an M1 based Air and I've never encountered any slow down on it for day to day use. Still, it's good to have options for those that want it.

Safari is far from perfect but Chrome I detest, quite resource hungry. Opera runs great on a Mac. I have a 2014 Mac Book Pro with 8 GB RAM and still runs fine, cannot think of any Windows desktop I have from that time that would run any better with 8GB RAM. This is a really good price. I only wish I could justify the spend.

8gb and Pro in the same sentence - apple sheep don't think outside of the bubble

They currently have this in Costco for £1146. The reviews I've read all seem to be saying that this model isn't worth considering as the M2 air is a better option at £100 cheaper (Costco have that for £1050) (edited)
