How much grit are people picking up in their sponges when washing cars that you need a grit guard?

All the grit that's on the car.

Seems a tad expensive for some moulded plastic...
"ordinary" 20L buckets are around the £2 mark and grit guards can be had for about £5, I don't get why this is a deal?
Does the branding make the water in the buckets wetter?

Exactly - this is a good deal for 2 x of these type of buckets and 2 x grit guards.

Cheaper than these buckets. If you are into detailing these are reasonably priced in comparison to branded one and have been proven to reduce swirl Marks on paintwork.

I did notice B&Q are selling 16L buckets for 97p (and 14L ones for 99p!). Homebase are selling 16L buckets for £1.
I didn't investigate the prices for 20L buckets or if they indeed sold them...

It's not the bucket that prevents the swirl marks... The grit guard helps, however it's down to the "operator" to ensure the sponge is clean. If only the charity car wash fund raisers used grit guards it would save a lot of scrapes! I've watched them drop the sponge on the ground, pick it up and continue rubbing the car with it - no amount of grit guard will help there!

I used a couple of orange bnq buckets and still do. Feel like cheap plastic though when full.
